Heinz field is pretty expensive to rent for 750 Pitt fans to show up. I'm sure they got a great deal at the HS facility. Or maybe it is a commentary on how sad the financial health of the Pitt football program is these days.

I believe this is NOT the first time ~itt has played their spring game at a HS field. I think they played at Gateway HS a few years ago.
As for the potential attendence. I think 750 is an extremely high guess.
