  • The only piece of actual information, and not guesses and suggestions, I got out of that was........

Still, Paknis recalls that “he would repeatedly come close to me, and say that he hated Joe.''

So to all of you, and you know you are, who are convinced that Joe and Sandusky were best buddies can now think again.

  • Why do I think this guy pimped his story to every outlet possible before finding one that actually cared to tell it? Strikes me as someone who who made nothing of his life after his stint at PSU and has held a grudge ever since. Now he has a forum for his vitriol. The worms really do come out once the rain stops.

  • This guy offers a unique perspective. That being said thousands of people that have come in and out of Paterno's life. He has affected players, coaches, administrators, parents, politicians, etc. You can't be around that many people and not garner varied responses to his type of leadership. So as many previous players have come forward to stick up for him... you are going to have a few people that never liked the way Paterno did things.

Couldn't agree more. He's spewing wayyyyy too much hatred in that article for me to even accept any of his garbage as objective.

  • The guy is 49 and was there in 87/88 yet he claims he was younger than McQuery who was PSU QB in 1999?

“I was youngest guy on the staff, four years younger than McQueary was,” Paknis says. “I was the lowest man on the totem pole.” - would make McQuery 53 yrs old.

As usual, the media reporting on the issue did not check very basic facts.

So if they were not close does that ameliorate the moral lapse? If anything you could say that if they were enemies then that should have given Joe (ultimate power) all the reason in the world to get the police involved.

Which is why you should realize it's too early to pile any of this onto Paterno.

  • these reports will become far more frequent with former players and others who have a grudge and/or axe to grind. In the past, nobody cared. Now we'll get to hear about kids who transferred, quit or were thrown off or never played- none worrying about the repercussions as Joe's lost his power and most of his political cache inside and out of campus.

Simple, because you view Joe in the exact way he describes many PSU fans.

He's kind of like the sour family members of a kid who wasn't name a starter.

On the contrary, I've seen a few former players who have stuck up for Joe via FB or twitter in the past week. Phil Taylor and Chris Baker were among two of the former players who weren't even here for 4 full years and they had great things to say about Joe and how he taught them how to be a man, so on and so fourth.

Or as any American who believes in the Constitution should view the situation. Who is in question here isn't the point. It's that the laws of our country are more important than someone's opinion on morality.

Its funny seeing so many PSU fans being upset with people throwing morality in our face after we threw morality in their face for the past 40+ years.

Im not arguing constitutional law and neither is the author of the article. He is talking about morality, just like Joe.

It seems to me that even most Penn State fans are throwing morality around against ourselves these days. I find it more sad than funny, however.

I hope your right but this article proves otherwise. Who knew or cared about Mr. Paknis two weeks ago? Now he's getting quoted in articles ripping Joe. Would this have been written if PSU was 8-1 and no one ever heard of the sexual abuse?

IMO the big deal is that why would Joe risk everything he helped create to cover for a sexual predator who he wasn't even friends with.

It is most peoples agenda. If it comes out Joe was a part of an effort to hide this, his name should be tarnished. It looks as MM has his own version of why occurred. I'm not sure who wouldn't want the truth to come out.

  • A couple of things....

    1) Why did he bring up that the coaches shower together? I know what he is implying, but it makes zero sense.

    2) It is quite obvious that Paterno didn't think he was worth a damn. Considering that we never heard of him as a coach after this, that is probably true. This guy is crying because Paterno didn't talk to him. Sorry, but Joe just won two NC... he doesn't need your advice.
