Sandusky Releases Statement

  • EDIT: From what I can tell, this statement was originally sent to Penn State's ComRadio. Just wanted to make sure they got credit. -- Jeff

"I'm responding to the worst loss of my life. First, I looked at myself. Over and over, I asked why? Why didn't we have a fair opportunity to prepare for trial? Why have so many people suffered as a result of false allegations? What's the purpose? Maybe it will help others; some vulnerable children who could be abused, might not be because of all the publicity. That would be nice, but I'm not sure about it.

I would cherish the opportunity to become a candle for others, as they have been a light for me. They could take away my life, they could make me out as a monster, they could treat me as a monster, but they can't take away my heart. In my heart, I know I did not do these alleged disgusting acts.

My wife has been my only sex partner that was after marriage. Our love continues.

A young man who was dramatic a veteran accuser, and always sought attention, started everything. He was joined by a well-orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, Penn State, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers. They won. I've wondered what they really won: Attention, financial gain, prestige& will all be temporary.

Before you blame me, as others have, look at everything and everybody. Look at the preparation for the trial and the trial. Compare it to others. Think about what happened. Why, and who made it happen? Evaluate the accusers and their families. Realize they didn't come out of isolation. The accusers were products of many more people and experiences than me. Look at their confidants and their honesty. Think about how easy it was for them to turn on me given the information, attention and potential perks. I never labeled or put down them or their families. I tried and I cared, then asked for the same.

Please realize all came to the Second Mile because of issues. Some of those may remain.

We will continue to fight. We didn't lose the proven facts, evidence, accurate locations and times. Anything can be said. We lost to speculation and stories that were influenced by people who wanted to convict me. We must fight unfairness and consistency and dishonesty. People need to be portrayed for who they really are. We've not been complainers. When we couldn't have kids, we adopted. When we didn't have time to prepare for a trial, we still gave it our best. We will fight for another chance. We have given many second chances, and now we'll ask for one. It will take more than our effort.

Justice will have to be more than just a word; fairness more than just a dream. It will take others: somebody apolitical with the courage to listen, to think about the unfairness, to have the guts to stand up and take the road less traveled. I ask for the strength to handle everything and willingness to surrender only to God, regardless of the outcome."

He's a very strong man with charisma and character. That given, he's in denial of his fallability and is not yet ready to admit his guilt, probably never will. A true modern day tragic hero. The ancient Greeks new of comedy and tragedy and human behavior has not changed since those times. JS rode his heroic achievement and fame to found a truly humanitarian organization that helped hundreds of children at risk. Yet for all the children he helped, he fails to recognize his tragic flaws that brought him down as well as a great University, with him.

Truly tragic. And the denial only rubs salt in the wounds. It's another sad day in Happy Valley. :-(

I know you have no intention to defend the guy, but putting a romatic spin on this horseshit of a denial written by the horrid human being who has committed these monstrous acts and was convicted by his peers is less than inspiring. May he rot in hell and we can bury this sordid unpleasantness which serves as a constant reminder to be vigilant against pedophiles and be proactive in bringing these monsters out in the open to be prosecuted to its fullest.

The garbage he written should be purged, considered it filth.

I understan your gutteral reaction bayou. But I'm a life-long resident of Centre County/Happy Valley and for 30+ of my 50 years of life, Sandusky was the proverbial "pillar" of the community. And his achievements as both a nationally recognized Defensive "genious" and his generosity and support of a truly humanitarian effort to help children at risk, made him a TRUE local hero.

Obviously you're living in the sweltering heat and humidity of the bayou and haven't spent much time here in Happy Valley.

JS was a true local hero, before his tragic upcommance. I obviously don't condone JS behavior. But you need to appreciate where I and the majority of Happy Valley PSU supporters are coming from

What we thought was a "hero" has been exposed as a "demon". But neither reality can will negate the good or the evil that the man committed. Hence, the true Greek tragedy.

Not attempting to elevate the man in the eyes of his detractors or the evils that he did. But before the evidence sunk this man, he was truly flying above all with his good deeds.

Do you realize that his "good deeds" were merely a ploy to have access to his victims? All the "good" he did was using the Second Mile as a place to pray on young men who needed guidance and a father figure. He took advantage of that and those young men and turned their lives into a daily living hell. I have spent many years around the PSU football program and in PA including State College. My opinion of him was at one point similar to yours, however reality set in the day this all came about and I can never look back nor can I understand how someone else can have any difficulty seeing that he is and has never been anything other than a pure monster. His alterior motives are evident with hindsight which we are all privy to now.

    prey not "pray".

And I suppose JS "alterior" motives to "pray" on his victims is equivalent to JoePA's alterior motives to allow a "prayor (preyor)" to get away with so as to "cover up" for PSU and Joe's reputation?

Look, I'm that last person who should be hounding on spelling errors, I sure make enough of 'em.

What you are mistaking my message for is supporting a convicted pedophile over acknowledging his good deeds. And JS did indeed do alot of good. I'm not using that as an excuse for the evil that he did. But please don't judge a man based on one side over the totality of his life. It's the same as accusing Joe for "enabling" or for that matter the entire PSU "culture" for "enabling" a pedophile. We, who are Penn State know better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not making excuses for JS. But NO ONE had prior knowledge of Jerry's predilection before the AG GJ! Prior to those revelations, JS was a true community hero. One of the things that caused the great backlash is "how could JS deceive us so?"

But apparently you knew all along?! And since you knew all along why didn't YOU warn us?

Hindsight is always 20-20 so spare us your moral superiority opinion on this matter will ya?

This is my wife's argument too. In the Jack Abrahmof or Bernie Madoff scandal modes. Regardless of their intent they harmed others. So yeah I get the push back on my opinions expressed here and deservedly so. But, just sayin' anyhow!

Have you not read anything about how the 2nd mile was potentially part of the Gambino family and Philly pedophile ring??? I think I would watch what you are saying about this. Yeah, you write eloquently, but it all sounds like horsecrap to me. I feel like I need to wash after reading that scumbag's statement. Then I have to hear you talk about him being a "pillar" of the community. Please.
