Sand pit

My roommate works for the Beaver Stadium Grounds Crew and he told me this morning that they are putting in a 60' x 150' sand pit that is also 8" deep. It is for conditioning for the football team.

Awesome. Just awesome. I did some work in the sand pit in HS. Just brutal.

Sand Pit
Sand training is one of Swasey's secrets to making the 'Canes "running men." Once a week during summer training, the players hit the sandpit to improve their agility and explosion.
"We perform all kinds of cuts and changes of direction out in the sandpit," Swasey said. "These drills develop the inner groin, strengthen the feet and ankles, and improve multi-directional movement. Sand training also works as a form of resistance running. Once I get these guys back out on the field, they can explode and get in and out of breaks much better."

We had to run the obstacle course in sand at OCS. That was a gut buster.

One guy that will be ready for it is Silas. I recall reading interviews from last summer, when he trained back home in June that he did mostly core work on the beaches withs trainer

This is the kinda stuff that I love about the new staff. They're willing to do new and unique forms of training along with things like pursuing guys like DOB. The old staff would have never done this along with not having a full coaching/recruiting staff to work with. That's been what's been holding PSU back the last decade or so and while BOB may or may not be the answer (I'm leaning towards he is) atleast he's willing to do the things they need to do to compete with the other top tier programs.

Silas, Fortt, Zordich, Hill and Hodges all scare the sand pit.

Just curious - where are they going to put this sand pit? Under the stands or out on the field?

As if I thought the completely new training they are enduring right now was bad enough....this sand pit is going to be the worst thing they experience S&C wise.
