Very very good hire for Rutgers. Even though he is going to be a short timer there IMO, he is better than Schiano.

Good get for Rutgers, and basically a no brainer once Schiano left. I don't think he will be as good of a recruiter as greg, but he is a much better coach. Rutgers did alright for themselves. The only downside for them is he is gone the second Miami or another southern power school comes calling.

Considering that FIU plays in the Sun Belt conference and can recruit Florida athletes, that's a fairly pedestrian record. He needs to prove himself at a good Big East or CUSA program before he's ready for a big-time job in the Big Ten, SEC, or ACC.
With all that said, I do think Cristobal is one of the better young coaches in college football, so he is a very good hire for Rutgers, especially after Schiano left at this stage of the off-season, and the transition should be easy because Cristobal was on Schiano's original staff at Rutgers in the early 2000s.

He had to deal with sanctions and scholarship reductions at FIU

Its the Sun Belt, and yes that is D-1.
I had Mario about 5th or 6th on my list of realistic coaching choices, but he's still been a damn good HC so far.
FTR, I had BOB about 10th on the list, but with the staff that he's put together he hasn't been awful so far. We'll see next season though.
I think this is a great hire for Rutgers, as they finally have a competent gameday HC now.
