SIAP- Word on Mauti's knee injury?

  • May have missed it but has there been an official announcement of the extent of his knee injury or are they waiting to do an MRI or something? thanks

  • Been hoping and praying for the kid since Saturday. He deserves something good to happen to him.

  • Exactly, really hope he makes the pros and has a good life and all. He really deserves it, my heart and I'm sure everyone else's heart goes out to him too!!!!

  • This is what makes PSU a special place IMO. Mauti will be able to come to the student bookstore in 15 years from now and have a line of folks waiting to shake his hand and sign an autograph, even if he never plays a snap in NFL. Due to injuries his college stats will never read like those of Poz or Short or LaVar or Lee or even Josh Hull, but the PSU faithful will always know Mauti's real impact on this program. He will be a PSU legend, andnon-PSU folks would never understand why. I think at many schools kids like him are forgotten. At PSU, we will always tip our hat to the good guys like Norwood and Mauti and Taliafero and Mills and Clark and MRob and Kyle Brady and Franco and Blacklidge and Engram and .... you get the idea.

Nothing official. From what I understand they won't know the extent of the damage until later in the week, I would assume they're waiting for an MRI.

  • I have been told from a source close to the team that it looks bad. They have to give him an MRI, but the initial tests were not good. They all hope for the best, but they are prepared for the worst.

  • Any chance he tries for the sixth year from the NCAA?B I would think he would be a candidate and if it is as bad as it appears-he may need 12 months to fully rehab before trying in the combine. Being around the best at Penn State for health & training (Fitz) might not be all bad. Wander if he had the NFL injury insurance policy that you hear about? Anyone follow him on Twitter?

Even if he wanted to come back and try the sixth year thing, do you honestly think the dickhead in Indy would approve it; let alone the scumbag in Chicago?

Even if the NCAA granted it, which there is absolutely no chance that they would for the most visible athlete of hated Penn State, how much of the 6th season would he even be able to participate in? He injured the knee in mid-November. Could he be ready for next season? After a second injury to the same knee, I would doubt it.

If Mauti's injury is too much to overcome (and I pray that is not a possibility), and the NFL/6th year is not a viable option, this staff should keep an opening for Mauti as a grad assistant - he was great on the sidelines last year. Or he can intern for Coach Fitz - they are made from the same mold reserved for titans.

Trust me, my grandkids (I dont even have kids yet) will be telling their grandkids about #42. That is a fact.

Possibly the most impactful student-athlete to ever going through PSU athletics (he didnt just impact football, and the University, but every other team on this campus and prob. so many others across the country).

  • If it is as bad as they think, they should offer Mauti a GA positions. I would love for him to be Vandy's heir apparent. Have no idea if he would be remotely interested though. It would be nice to have him on staff.

Agreed wholeheartedly on this and it was brought up on the board here Saturday after his injury.

  • Was at the game with my Dad this past Saturday. When Mauti went down he seriously started to tear up. Can't say I blame him.
