SIAP: Ahead of OSU in recruiting

  • I just noticed that we moved ahead of OSU with our recruiting class. It sure seems like a long time since they got a commit.

Maybe the luster is beginning to fade on Urban's crown down in Columbus. A month ago half the posters here were waving the white flag, saying we would never catch up. Now we are right in the thick of it, inching closer to scUM. I love the new staff!

He's trying to reel in the big fish that have plenty of options and will take their time. Urb and O$U will get theirs. Not that we aren't after studs as well but seems that we are going head to head for Foster, Williams, Webb and Anzalone to my knowledge right now who seem to be taking their time.

  • I'm not so sure that having more recruits as of today, still almost a year from signing day, is anything more than a slightly different recruiting strategy. I'll agree that it's nice to be ahead of them though.

    perfect

  • Way way way way to early for this

This statement is a little pre-mature but Ohio State's slow start is due to the fact that they went after big fish first before evaluating and offering in state talent. That allowed Michigan, MSU, ND, and us amongst others to start cherry picking his in state talent. His strategy may very well backfire unless he gets in state kids to flip later on in the recruiting process. The successful strategy for many schools is to lock down the talent in their own state first before going after the highly rated talent elsewhere. Kids are statistically more likely to stay closer to home than to venture elsewhere especially if the school is beyond a comfortable driving distance.

  • One more comment. I fully expect Urban to break the B10 tradition of not going after committed players like he did last cycle. Expect B10 coaches to return the favor by running up the score or sending him other hints that that strategy is not appreciated.

As difficult recruiting in Florida is vs UM and FSU, (3 major schools), sure seems our region is pretty tough too. Don't lock down Ohio, and the others swoop in and grab everyone.

Sure hope Meyer has read his Dale Carnegie books lately, and builds relationships in OH...or he'll be more like Cooper than Tressel.

Agreed. While our great start is wonderful, still a VERY long time until signing the 2013 class. Urban will get his, he always does. We will continue to get ours as well and still finish with a top 15 class, IMO.

  • I cant believe this is a thread. OSU will be just fine, and I would bet they end with a higher "ranked" class than ours fwiw.

Seriously. People need to understand how the rankings on here work. When teams have single-digit commits, you're almost never going to see a team with fewer commits higher than a team with more commits.

Yes - wasted thread. Why do people worry about recruiting classes and rankings....bottom line: it is what it is. We fans have no say in it anyway, have to accept it for what it is.

  • Come on guys, its a freaking recruiting board and whether you want to talk about it or not RIGHT NOW our class is ranked higher than Ohio State's.

I seriously doubt it will stay that way as signing day is 11 months away, but the OP is correct in that right now, according to the rankings of 247 our class is ranked higher.

The only thing the OP said which might not prove to be correct was that maybe the luster has faded from OSU. You guys need to relax.

    Who cares?

Recruiting rankings are topics of conversations, nothing more. Great classes can go to sh!t if the coaches don't do a good job of putting them in a position to succeed. UF fell apart with great classes, so did Texas. Hell, all FSU does is pull in top 10 classes and they haven't won their conference since 2005.

Let's focus on what OUR program is doing, don't let trivial things like OSU football bother you. I promise you it will make you much happier as a football fan if you only think about Urban one Saturday a year.

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
