  • Props to him. Outside of ~2 drives, NW was contained today. Took them about 7 tries to get even a first down.

Now I will say that we still haven't seen this D against a running QB, since Colter didn't play QB for the most part. But I like what our D did today. They did a terrific job getting in the passing lanes.

  • D really only gave up 14 points. And held a team to under 300 yards against a when they put up over 700 the week before.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

    Absolutely. Terrific effort.

  • Pass defense is much better when Hull replacing Carson.

  • Auburn fans claim that he was horrid. The one thing I like to point out is that Fairley was a great player, but a defense is more that one guy. Newton was lightning in a bottle and did make that team run. Without Newton that team isn't that great to begin with. Chizik is not that great of a coach, so maybe he is to blame as well.

#DicedPineapples I have one upvote left, and I am not afraid to use it!!!

  • Don't really like to post this but Roof's D under O'Brien was possibly the difference today. Bradley under Joe's philosophy would have been more conservative with a distinct possibility of a different outcome today.

I was wary about Roof. However, I also understood that he had NO talent at Auburn outside of Fairley. Basically, to me Roof was an unknown. I've been looking for him to prove himself, and he's done well outside of the Ohio game. Still waiting to see a mobile QB, but have to say the D did a great job against a high-powered O today.

  • The D did a great job of shutting down Colter. Outside of that touchdown run, he was invisible. Let's hope we can do the same to Braxton Miller in a few weeks.
    Great job by the D!!

  • So far, not bad. Can't really do much complaining.

Agreed. If he wasn't getting the ball snapped to him, he wasn't getting the ball. Surprised NW didn't do more reverses or something to get it into his hands.

Loved Hodges shoving him to the ground on one of those first drives by NW. Set the tone.

I can remember Lavar doing this quite a few times. He would blast a wr before five yards and before the ball was thrown. Intimdated the sh_t out of kids.
You're right, great play and it set the tone.

Soooo much this... I was screaming for it, and when Roof did it, I praised him lol Literally dropped to my knees and said thank you (to him and God).

  • Yep Roof did awesome and the job BoB has done with minimal offensive talent is a MIRACLE!

  • Really this D gave up 7 points.

The 2nd half drive was it.

The first TD off the fumble, the second was due to that bull crap pass interference call, and the other was the punt return (I still think Hull was held).

Great effort by the boys today ... a wonderful team win.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

  • Didn't Northwestern's first time crossing the 50 come mid way through the 2nd quarter? They can play against any offense, and that's an impressive feat. And if so, I feel like people at the basketball game against NW during the first quarter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdJYstM5DBk

  • I agree.

I have been very critical of Roof so far, but yesterday went a long way for me. Holding that defense to 14 points is very impressive, and completely neutralizing Colter was extremely impressive to me.

No matter where he lined up, our defense was ready for him. Their backup QB didn't look too great, outside of one or two passes with some zip on them. He made quite a few questionable decisions.

Colter is the man though, and I hope NW wins out. I don't know how they'll stop Nebraska's offense though. That defense doesn't seem like it has the big guys to handle that kind of rushing attack.
