While I wouldn't have been angry at an offer, and in fact said it could be a good time to offer Rodgers. I think given his film and body control that a camp offer is the best possible solution for Rodgers and Penn State. I think gem, who I have had a good conversation with regarding Rodgers, would most likely agree.

You know I agree. If they get a look at him up close at a camp and want to offer then that's fine by me. I don't think the staff has seen him in person and the available film leaves quite a few question marks. His game film isn't terribly impressive and the combine film from the beginning of the year is the same. Personally I think this is sound evaluating. Bring him and see what kind of progress he's made and see if he's a project worth taking on. As Mtayl and I have discussed previously outside of this forum, he's in need of serious coaching, so in a sense he's somewhat difficult to evaluate. He certainly has the frame of a big time tackle prospect, and that alone has probably contributed greatly to his offer list.

  • Gem, I think he is the second worst coached OL we are recruiting this year. And the coaches may be good HS coaches that just let their kids get by with that technique due to their HS success, or don't have great OL coaches, or maybe they aren't coachable, IDk. But kid has some real technique issues.

Definitely better coached than what I've seen from Gray.

interesting...i just saw a tweet the other day from a camp this weekend that a recruiting analyst called Grey the best OL he'd seen this year and referred to him as a "superb technician"

Honestly, I've only seen 4 clips of him from camps. All 4 he looked rough. But its hard taking anything from 4the plays, so maybe I thoroughly jumped to quickly.

But I hope thats right, makes me even even happier we are in on him.

the tweet is in the twitter thread from a guy named Keith from Rivals fwiw...not sure what camp he was covering though.

  • Looks like there was a Virginia camp/combine just this past weekend. Rivals reviewed it and mentioned both Gray and Rodgers as having impressed (along with Paul Harris at WR). They only showed one clip of Gray and one clip of Rodgers. It's interesting to note that the one clip they showed of Rodgers had his set/base a bit narrower than it was at a combine earlier this year, and he definitely looked more comfortable and on balance, encouraging sign (I know, it's only one clip). In the one Grey clip he looked fine. He does (both in the clip and the one game film from his junior year) seem to engage in a somewhat abnormal amount of hand fighting/movement. It's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just noticeable and bit different from what you typically see. They did say Harris was the number one receiver at the camp (expect a bump in his rating on Rivals as a result).

Gem I need rivals film haha. Thats the one thing that sucks is sometimes these guys go to these camps and these places (rightfully) dont post it on youtube or Hudl.

Good to hear Na'Ty may have narrowed his base, as I think that was his number one concern like we talked about.

The clips I all saw of Gray were him getting beat by the bull rush, which is difficult in a camp and many DL just cant do it in HS so they dont see it often.
