Replacement refs on MNF were HORRIBLE !!!!

  • Just robbed Green Bay of a win. Blatant offensive pass interference as time ran out. This is unbelievable. They also missed another blatant offensive pass interference and actually called it on Green Bay. This is a JOKE !!!! Roger Goddell is ruining his sport.

  • One would think they would get better each week with experience but they have gotten worse. By far the worst officiating I've seen.

  • It's pathetic. A multi-billion dollar industry squabbling over what... a couple million dollars? Really?

    Talk about stupid.

If these refs continue, a team will miss the playoffs because of their stupid calls.

  • Wow. Cannot believe they called that a TD.

Just because a receiver is able to TOUCH the football does not mean he has simultaneous possession with the DB. I feel like that has been called before even with the real refs and it frustrated me then too. Just an absolute BS call. Interception all the way.

No guts to overturn it and risk the home crowd. Bogus.

  • This was SO undeniably bad that I think it will force the agreement between the NFL and the regular refs. This is a major, major embarrassment and they will scramble to get the agreement done. This will be the last game with these replacement refs. If not, they have a catastrophic issue on their hands and some monumental damage control to do !!!

Not to mention a clear two-handed shove to the back of the defender. A complete joke.

  • The phantom DPI on Shields (should have been OPI on Rice) on the drive prior to bail out a 1st and 30 was almost as horrendous.

    Is that even overturnable?

Russel Wilson hasn't gotten this many calls since senior day at Wisconsin last year :P

Agree. Equally horrendous. The Seattle receiver mugged the GB d-back. You would think a fix was in on this game.

equally worse was the DPI on Kam Chancellor on 3rd and 3 during GB's TD drive.

  • Go to the front page of ESPN and read the comments. The NFL brand is taking a beating !!

  • I think the DPI on Chancellor started the ball downhill. It became a game of makeup calls.

Up til then, I think the game, while a lot of flags...most were well deserved.

To me, that's not as big a deal because 1) the NFL almost never calls OPI, 2) the NFL never calls PI on a Hail Mary (it's coming back to me - I think that the refs did call PI on the Hail Mary in that Bills game and that's one of the calls they were protesting).

Yeah, it was definitely PI but I'm never going to expect the real refs to call it, much less replacement ones. I would think even kindergarten refs could tell the difference between touching and possession though.

  • Lost in all this is jennings actually trying to catch the ball. It's the last play, knock it down.

Maybe so, but that doesn't change what actually happened, which is that he intercepted it.

Ask the DB on Tennessee on Sunday if just knocking it down works. The Giants almost got burned by doing that on the Hail Mary in the Super Bowl this past February. I have come around to the thinking that if you can catch it, why give the other team a chance at catching it on a deflection by knocking it down?

  • Two things really bothered me about this play.

    1. Obviously, it was a Packer int. And I didn't really need to know the precise NFL rule for joint possession to come to that conclusion. Anybody who has played football (sandlot, backyard, etc.) has seen a similar play and knows that Tate didn't have "possession" of the ball by any stretch. True joint possession occurs only when the players are chest to chest and both have it pulled into their chest. Tate's touching of the ball that was laying on the db's chest was not remotely close to possession and even kids on the sandlot could have figured that out.

    2. Tirico or the ex-official in the booth made a comment that the replay could not be used to determine who actually had possession--only whether it was a catch and whether it was in bounds for a td. If that is true, I don't get the rule. Why can't we use replay to determine if this was true joint possession or whether one of the players actually made the catch? Makes no sense to me. As bad as the screw up was by the ref, replay should have fixed this error.

You're more likely to have problems if you attempt to catch it than if you knock it down. It's pretty obvious. Does it not work out 100% of the time? Clearly. Does that mean it's the wrong move? No.

  • Good for Goodell. Keep the replacement refs.

  • It was a bad call but it happens with the regular refs. Jennings should have swatted the ball down instead of going for INT. SWAT it DOWN!!!! They never call PI in that situation, the reg refs let them go at it. SWAT it down!!!

You're right, he should have but it doesn't change the fact the Packers got jobbed. As a Bears fan I'm ok with it. As a FF owner who lost by 3 pts because of that play, I'm irritated. I just hope the refs are back before one of our teams get screwed too.
