Recruits at OSU game

  • Bob just said between 80-100 set to visit

  • Not surprised, but man...would like to see it spread out a little so the coaches can give some attention to each recruit.

Have a feeling the Wisconsin game will have some show up as well.

  • man that game is going to be HUGE both this year and for years to come with all these recruits attending

  • NEED to win that game.

Based on the last few weeks, it seemed like a lot of kids were planning on coming for that game but damn that's a lot of recruits!

Understand completely, but wow, to expose that many kids to a white out v tOSU is a wonderful selling tool.

Agree, I can't imagine many if any will be on official visits. Therefore, they can come back for an official and get some one on one with the coaches.

Agreed, this game atmosphere is going to be insane when at kickoff. If we win this game and/or its close throughout recruits are going to have a hard time finding a more exciting venue.

Hopefully it works out much like the OSU game in 2005 -- On the field, and from a recruiting perspective. Some high-star kids (like AJ Wallace) went from "just along for the visit with my buddy" to "I'm shutting down my recruiting and coming here" that night.

Yep. And if they want to get the individual red carpet treatment, they'll come back. Get a bunch of kids there bonding together in a great atmosphere and big things can happen. Michigan built its great class this year in decent part through the ND night game last season.

I don't either. I think people misunderstood my comment. I don't want to turn prospects away at the door or anything, was just saying that with so many kids, they won't get much time alone with the coaches. But that's the price you pay with a huge game like that. Was simply lamenting that fact.

A win would be huge for recruiting. However, for the kids who are visiting, the result really doesn't matter that much. It would help to win, but to see the coaches, the atmosphere, the fans, the facilities, etc. is the main thing.

Great to see Walker is visiting, thanks for the info, Ehoffman.

Result doesn't matter too much, but keeping it close so the crowd is intense through the fourth can sometimes put it over the top for kids. The crowd late in a close game will make it tough for any competitor to compare from an atmosphere standpoint.

Neither do I as long as these prospects are legit Division I prospects.

  • Cant wait to see Sean's photos of the recruits from next weeks game. We might all have to chip in to buy a larger memory stick for his camera.

  • PSU can lose and it can still be a very good game for recruiting. Like others mentioned, as long as it's a close game and the crowd is into it, that's all that matters. I win is nice of course, but I'm not sure a kid ever picked a school because they won on his visit or didn't pick them because they lost. Worst case scenario is PSU comes out flat, OSU gets out in front early, and the crowd sucks.

  • Question for Sean (maybe more appropriate for S-Zone tomorrow): anyone on commitment watch for next weekend?

You don't have to worry, my Buckeye defense will keep you in the game! They are just dreadful, should be a fun game, love that kind of atmosphere!

It certainly won't hurt having Breneman, Hack, etc. there recruiting

I understand what you're saying, but I just think it's better to get them hooked (and on campus) with a big game, and to hope we put a good enough of a foot forward so that they'll give us a closer look. They might not remain interested by the time the season is over.

You know, I just thought of another kick to the balls with these sanctions...no bowl practices. Fvck.

Are you sure that was 05 OSU? Why was I thinking Joe cancelled the recruiting visits for that game for some crazy reason?

Thought about that too. While I'm not sure how much time is spent on bowl prep, maybe a positive is that our coaches can spend that time evaluating film, recruiting, etc. Except now our coaches also have to recruit our own players. SMH

I remember that. Supposedly lost a kid who wound up at Auburn because he was mad we cancelled his visit. Don't know if that's true, but that was the prevailing thought back then.

Ben Tate would have flipped to PSU if not for that. You are correct. The McCarthy kid from Florida would have been our's as well. I believe also another Florida pair, Rickerson and James were slated to have officials. They eliminated PSU after the canceling of those. Rickerson went to WVU; James to Florida.
