Recruiting questions......from Bama

  • Hey guys. How's everything going with you?

    Congrats Black Lion, BTW.

Color me shocked about us getting a verbal from Anthony Averett. I thought we had a chance since we were on him so early, but it's hard to really believe you're going to get a kid from New Jersey when we have never really had much success in that area. I think CB is a position in which we are very much in need and he will have a chance to play early in his career so I think that helped as well. We have some very talented guys at CB, but due to some exits and some guys getting shifted to WR in the last class, we really only have 6 CB's that we want to rely on, and they are mostly JRs (4 to be exact). It's still a long way until February on a guy that far away, but we would appreciate it if you honored the old "gentlemen's agreement" for this one (g).

My main question is about Robert Foster. I think we are on the outside looking in on this one with PSU, Pitt, and maybe tOSU being the teams truly in the hunt. I think with a guy like Hack committed and a new intringing offense that BOB should bring, he would be a great fit there for you guys. I hope we made a great impression this weekend, becasue if we can get guys like that on campus for the Spring game and/or a camp, I feel better about our chances, but it's still probably an uphill battle.

Do you guys think there is a chance he leaves the state? Is he really considering Pitt (why)? I am assuming with the QB position set nicely, this guy has to be the top priority for BOB, IMO. Good luck with him. If we can't have him, I hope you guys can.

2 PA guys that I like, Dorian Johnson (T) and Alex Anzalone (LB). What is the feel on them? I see that Pitt seems to have the lead on Johnson. Any chance that changed after his visit? Same with Anzalone. Looks like tOSU has the slight lead there. He was in State College yesterday. How did it go? Someone should show Anzalone how far down the draft Urban's LBers at Florida fell each year and how they showed absolutely no improvement after they stepped on campus.

    Thanks.

Better Off, shavi was just pointing out that alot is VIP info. Sean does great work, and we want to respect that. I can answer some without breaking that respect.

The two Pitt area kids have strong interest because they are from there. Pitt has always done well in being a player to guys close around. I wouldnt worry too much about Johnson, but Foster is a open kid who is tough to get a read on.

Anzalone is a kid who likes academics and has a strong enough support system to go pretty much anywhere. His recruitment will be a battle.

Congrats on Averett, we wanted him bad. But its understandable to lose a guy to Bama.

I think I kept VIP stuff out. Feel free to edit mods.

I PM'ed him, so his "thanks" was not an insincere one.

  • Just an interesting note to add to the Averett situation. In talking to a Bama guy this past weekend, he informed me that Bama hired the premiere jump coach in the nation last summer (Dick Booth). Booth coached for many years at Arkansas, and most recently at Florida. He has overseen 49 Individual National Champions, 150 AA's and 11 Olympians (including '92 Gold Medalist Mike Conley). Considering Averett's prowess in the long jump, he said that it wouldn't surprise him if Booth's presence in the track program was a major factor in Averett's decision. I'm not sure if that was the case, but if true, Bama certainly presented an extraordinary combination of possibilities for an athlete like Averett.
