Reality of the Situation

  • Well it hit me pretty good yesterday. I think we were all hoping the team was going to be decent and with changes to the schemes and S&C etc. that it could've been an 8 win team. It looks like a 3 or 4 win season for the next several yrs with next yr being really bad. The actions of a few selfish cowardly men ruined this programs image and set the program back a decade. Really shocked by the terrible play of the psu defense and I don't think they would've played this poorly under Bradley!

Then I watch Alabama make Michigan look like a junior college and I realized PSU will just never be that. We will never experience that level of success again. The SEC is actually widening the talent gap each yr and it's the same mix of elite teams every yr and psu isn't among them. So you have to try and just enjoy hitting a game or two a yr and tailgating etc and can't get emotionally attached to it. Ain't worth it.

  • Talk about giving up, I hope bill obrien isn't feeling sorry for himself this morning.. I actually feel quite the opposite than I did this time last year after getting demoralized by bama, that this offense, with some seasoning and some players could be a machine.. I can't help but think how dangerous hack and breneman will be if they both come.. If bob could make mcgloin look like a D1 qb like he looked in the first half, then we are in good hands if hack is still confident this is the place to be..

  • This will tick off the Paterno supporters but he did nothing he last 15 yrs and it showed recruiting was bad and nothing was left for Obrien and Ted Roof looks like a bad hire.

  • Some of new-era statements are possibly true in the sense that it going to be rough. I believe that BOB can get us back but we are going to have to truely rebuild and deal with some tough years. This is what I am most concerned with; people giving up on BOB and company with a 3-4 win year (which is possible). The decision to stick with him through difficult times should be made on what we see right now from him - complete competence in all phases. He has been dealt and very difficult hand. Emmertt built in poison pills to screw PSU along the way. Our response has to be uncommon loyalty..

  • The next 4 years are going to feel as long as GW Bush's 2nd term. But your level of fatalism is a bit much. Everything ebbs and flows. Our time will come again.

This is exactly how I feel...it doesn't matter if it's true. Your negativity does NOT help. You are creating a cycle, and it is one that will not help us in achieving anything.

I was thinking about how far from elite Penn St has fallen on my way home yesterday. I can remember growing up as a kid (was born in '78) and how good Penn St really was. We used to destroy teams like ohio, I mean it was an automatic win. A laugher.

I don't think we ever put together a run like the current Bama team, but I knew we could hang with anyone in the country. Penn St has become just another big10 team that might win the conference every few years, which wins us the right to get our ass kicked by USC or Bama types in a bowl game. Even when we are good, we are good like ohio st or michigan when they're good. Meaning, we are good for the big10 but below the nations elite.

I will still watch and support the team, good or bad, but hopefully we can regain that level again after the sanctions are over.
