The Lions' Pride

My first trip to Penn State I was about 10 years old. My dad was a professor at Penn State New Ken and had a meeting at UP so he took me along with him. He bought me a Penn State football at the bookstore and it was one of those footballs that half of it was made with white leather. The last thing we did before we went home was went to the sports museum. In the parking lot when we were leaving my dad said "there's Joe over there". We went over and he signed my football and talked to us for a few minutes. It was nothing to him but it's something that I'll remember as long as I live.

I miss Joe. Would be great to catch him in a booth during a game for a series or 2.

"Awe Billy ya gotta punt the ball there"

"Hold on to that ball Zwinak"

And countless other things I could think of.

Wish he Joe was still around...but feel blessed we had him for the time we did.

Thanks for being you Coach Paterno.

I will never forget Joe or what he stood for. And I will never accept the current public perception of him. The truth will be clear in time.

I've come to the point of not caring anymore what the public perception of him is or will be. What matters is what we think and fell, not strangers. That's what the Board never figured out. Outside people like to say we don't "get it". Well I think it's those people who don't get it. And that's because they know little of the man who donated millions to this university, who raised untold thousands for charities and the Special Olympics, who benched key players for cutting class, and whose vision thirty years ago advanced this university in innumerable ways.

I only met Joe once in my life, but I can truly say I'm a better person for just knowing of him and his ideals.

Gone but will never be forgotten.

409 will be restored one day to the winningest coach of all time. To those that spat on 60 years of great work for someone elses misdeeds, you're house should only be so clean.

One more Joe story from me. I saw him walking home with Jay after he passed Bear Bryant's record. My friend and I started clapping and yelling 'way to go coach'!
Joe's response? "Ah jeez fellas, that's enough".
I love that guy. Pure class.
