Question about Ki-jana Carter

  • Was watching the 1993 Penn State vs Michigan ST game, all the highlight from the running back position were from Mike Archie, Was Ki-jana hurt that game? I don't recall him ever missing a game for injury. All i remember is when he had to get the cast on his thumb his senior year.

Any help would be great, I watched it early this morning, asked a couple of my uncles and my Dad today and no one seems to remember.

  • Funny thing I remember on that season is that Joe had Stephen Pitts the starter and Mike Archie second string. I do not remember this game in particular but maybe that is the reason?

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

  • I think he sat out most of the 1993 season with a knee injury. He came back for the bowl game or maybe Michigan St, but then he really blew up in 1994.

Really sucks he didn't get the Heisman in 1994. He should have, but most games we had a five touchdown lead in the third quarter so Paterno sat him. He could have easily eclipsed 2000 yards if he had played as much as Salam had.

  • He was not hurt. He played. However, in 1993 Archie played a lot and PSU would keep in the back that was playing the best. I think in that game Archie played more of the game. Also, PSU was behind much of the game and Archie was more involved in the passing game than Carter was.

As for Carter and injuries, he only had one of note at PSU. He dislocated his thumb against Temple in 1994. He misses the second half of Temple and if PSU did not have a bye before the Michigan, he would have missed that game as well. However, PSU had a bye and Carter went on to have a big game against Michigan.

Thank you MillerLatte, Good info, I remember Pitts and Archie Doing that in 1995 when Pitts came back from his injury. I just could remember that, My dad did remind me that i was in boot camp for that season.

Guess that is a good excuse.

That is incorrect. Ki-Jana Carter injured his right knee against Illinois (9th game of the season) and missed the final 2 games of the '93 regular season (he actually didn't even make the trip to East Lansing). Mike Archie exploded in Ki-Jana's absence, with 30 carries for 134 yards and 2 TD against Illinois, 27-173-2 against Northwestern, and 17-61-1 against Michigan State. Ki-Jana returned for the Citrus Bowl against Tennessee.

    okay thank Vslice02

Thanks for the information, Those are good numbers put up by Archie. I think i might have been able to rush for at least 100 yards a game behind that O-Line...lol

  • Ki-Jana also had a pretty bad injury in HS, which kept most of the big boys away. I wanna say it was a broken leg, but I'm not positive about that.

slice is indeed right, carter was hurt the last part of 1993, and saw him on campus shortly before the MSU game in 93.

  • Ki-Jana's 93 stats.

    155 1026 7 6.6

    Not to bad.

  • Carter had offers from all the big boys. Pitts and Carter had offers from almost every major program in the country. Carter did miss games in high school, but he was still very highly recruited.

    MillerLatte

  • Carter came out of preseason camp at the #3 back on the depth chart. Archie and Pitts were ahead of him. However, Carter made the most of his playing time and emerged as the #1 option in '93 and '94. Archie was the primary back-up and PSU would also flex Archie out and use him as a wide receiver at times. Pitts fell to #3 or #4 on the depth chart in 1994 as Ambrose Fletcher overtook him. Fletcher got in trouble and Archie got hurt in 95 (Archie was also in Joe's doghouse), so Pitts got back in the picture and played well in 95.

    MillerLatte

  • Hey MillerLatte wasn't Ambrose Fletcher the kid that ran over the Dback on the goal line at the end of the game against Ohio State in 1993? Also i thought he had some kind of health issue(heart?) during the winter workouts and the parents were really upset with the school on how it was handled.

Did you watch it on the BTN? They have been running old great games, but so far I have not seen PSU with a game on yet. Lots of Ohio State/Michigan, but have not seen PSU out of the many reruns they have played from great games of years past.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

  • Fletcher has some off the field issues as well. He got involved in some crazy situation in his hometown over the summer before coming back to PSU. He was a very talented walkon player that had serious talent. He was so good, the coaches moved Kim Herring from running back to his more natural position, defensive back.
