Great to see Paul Jones personality out here. Even on his across the body overthrow to Kuntz near the end, he goes to meet him and high five, as he did with one of the tight ends who had made a catch earlier on the drive. Bottom line, he looks like a leader who everyone will support. Was even high-fiving with the defense (#88). I would be stunned if his call to Mom tonight didn't go something like this, "Mom, after that, I guarantee you I'll keep me grades up - whatever it takes. That was waaaaay too much fun and I am not missing out anymore." I think he is better than Darrel Clark in the "it" category and has a chance to be the best since Michael Robinson.
Bolden. Just the opposite. On field, just as lost as ever, despite his gifted arm, even when running only 10% of the offense. Even on the sideline he seems lost in a bubble. He doesn't appear to talk to anyone or with anyone, and all around him seem to treat him as if he was invisible. Rarely have I seen such a thing in football where it seems a borderline starter has no buddies on the sideline. Maybe Jeff George. I think his personality is better suited to being a baseball pitcher than QB where leadership traits and broader understanding of the team and the game situations are required. As a pitcher, game situations do effect what you do, but 95% of the time your mission is the same - get the batter out one way or another.
McGloin. Still no good, but still probably best option. Not his fault that we may not have had anyone better the last three years. He just wants to play like most of the kids and if the coaches put him in, so be it. My guess is because of all the experience he has gotten the last two years, he is the best option to start the first game or two as Jones gets more comfortable as he gets more practice reps as the number 2. Hopefully Jones will be ready then to take over for a couple games before the Big Ten. I think McGloin will be a good backup to have.
Too early to tell, yet, but from what little I've seen, heard, or read about Jones, Bench, and Hackenburg, it looks like we will finally have 3 QBs who have the basic intangibles a QB needs and who do more than just take the snap and run plays.

Saw that! I thought it was great. It's nice to see the interaction all the coaches were having with all the players. Lots of learning/teaching going on.
As far as the QB race goes, it's between MM and PJ, that's very clear. PJ has the better mechanics/tangibles but lacks the experience MM has. It will be an interesting battle come summer camp.

It's just painfully obvious to me that Jones is the best option at QB.
Jones avoided several sacks with his feet, showed a ROCKET for an arm, and his decision making isn't really any worse than McGloin. Even from a naked eye perspective, it's easy to see that Jones has by far the most ability of the QBs, the most energy, and the most mobility.
Now are there some areas he needs to brush up on? Absolutely. That interception should've never happened if he just recognizes the deep 3rd coverage from the CB, and either throws it where no one can get it, somewhere else, or holds on to it. But he made plays that the other guys simply can't make. His throw to Allen Robinson for 40 yards after buying time with his feet was great; and his rollout to his left and bomb intended for Kuntz was beautiful. Honestly, I don't care if it was incomplete - that was the best throw we've seen from a Penn State quarterback in a while.
At the end of the day, Jones showed the most ability and upside, along with energy and passion. To me it's not even a question. With all of McGloin's experience he's still late on deep outs (which led to his interception), and is prone to mistakes when throwing under pressure in the pocket (Malcolm Willis' near interception on an overthrow from McGloin).Think about if you were Urban Meyer or an Ohio State coach... would you rather worry about McGloin under center, or Paul Jones?

Agreed. Fairly impressed by the "1st Team" OL today, all things considered. Now the backups were very spotty, and played well below average as cohesive units. Cadogan got beaten like a drum by CJ Olaniyan all day.
Starters looked solid though, should be fun to watch them continually develop.
