If they're not being asked to return for a 5th yr, there's nothing shady about it. 5th yr is an earned privilege and the kid has already been granted 4 yrs to earn his degree. I don't think they're going to 'cut' guys after the spring. There's no reason to do so. We're not over the limit. Most of these 'dead weight' guys will play out the season, hopefully get their degree for free, and move on.

Exactly what I was thinking. What happened to sticking with the kids so that they get an education even though they may not cut it on the field? Are we really so intent on completely abandoning the principles that everyone has been touting for years? The principles that have gained our university and football program their excellent reputations (pre-scandal)? If we throw that by the wayside and then we still lose - then what do we have? The least we can do is to maintain that dedication to our STUDENT-athletes so that we continue to be about success with honor and building future leaders rather than becoming a football factory.

I will give you that. Telling 5th year guys, that have earned their degrees, that their time is up - I find to be acceptable. However pulling scholarships from younger guys that aren't cutting it on the field but are succeeding in the class room I find to be unacceptable. Hopefully we don't come to that
