I've never heard of anything like this. 6 coaches were in Happy Valley. You got to read how Lane Kiffin describes this.

Private Jets, 6 coaches...yep, PSU's culture was way out of whack.
I guess Kiffin, who thought it was classless to poach his kids...has rethought that stance.

So in summary, in Silas's head... 6 coaches from USC he just met > 70+ teammates he's spent 2 years of sweat and tears with.

Yep. Star gazing. We all thought he was someone that he wasn't... We just need to worry about keeping the rest here. And we will be fine. RBs are easy to come by, and Stephon Green looked good last year for goodness sakes. And our line will be much better than last year. If Dukes and Lynch stay we look beastly in the backfield.

The anger at Kiffin is understandable considering the circumstances, but, IMO, misdirected. Blame Emmert and the NCAA. They created the rules. They felt the need to punish innocent football players who have violated zero NCAA violations. They’re the ones who twisted their rules to hand down unprecedented (and unwarranted) sanctions after an unprecedented (and NCAA-Constitutional-violating process).
Kiffin (and many other coaches) are just playing by them.
The coaches first called Redd’s high school coach to see if Redd might be interested. Then Redd’s dad called Kiffin and told him that USC was the one team Silas would be interested in talking to.
So they flew out and spoke with the family in Norwalk. The family visited USC, on its own dime, and Redd elected to transfer. Kiffin was never in Happy Valley.
It’s a bad thing to have Emmert and the NCAA trying to regulate “culture.”

I have no issues with how Kiffin did it. Did Kiffin call PSU and let them know they were going to recruit Redd?
My main issue is how Kiffin felt 3 years ago, then to turn around and do it is a bit hypocritical.

For starters, they didn't send 6 coaches. Secondly, to my knowledge none of them openly complained about how their kids were being recruited (poached?) by other programs.
I'm not complaining, it just seems a bit hypocritical for him to complain, then do the exact same thing that he was complaining about. But that's me. As long as he contacted PSU, he's well within the rules.

Didn't illinois send six coaches to your campus to recruit players? And so what if he's being "hypocritical" about the situation. What's done is done. Complaining about him being hypocritical isn't going to get you Silas back so why dwell on the situation.?

Like how they were trying to get a helicopter to pick-up the coach on a cruise. And WE have a lack of institutional control? Don't think the old or new PSU coaching staff would pull off this kind of extreme move. Pretty unethical IMO

Didn't PSU recruit USC players when this happened.? Why not return the favor. Seems like the only fair thing to do. You guys steady bash kiffin for being a slimeball yet he hasn't broken any rules in recruiting silas. You can't call him a slimeball for being hypocritical. It's all sour grapes on your end.
