Potential Home & Home with FSU

  • I love this idea and I know nole fans would.

  • So it's a suggestion, rather than any evidence or rumors to suggest it is happening.

I personally think a great "bowl game" would be a program like San Diego State.

  • Darn it. From the thread title I thought something was actually in the works. This is just an opinion piece saying this writer thinks we SHOULD schedule Seminoles.

That being said, I was at the Orange bowl when we beat them in 3 OT's. Their players were nasty. Loads of cheap shots, late hits, and foul play. I'd worry about the health of our guys for a Sept game where a team played so dirty (if they still do that now that Bobby left). Their fans were horrid. So many lovable and kind fans for bowl games and reg season against Tenn, LSU, Bama, etc... those FSU fans were horrible.

  • As much as I'd like to play FSU, PSU might be better served playing teams like USF for the next couple of years. Get into states like Florida but not have to play the powerhouses. JMO but a couple more wins every year is better than getting creamed by FSU. It will help keep PSU relevant and BOB won't have to deal with horrible records in recruiting. Curley might have done PSU a favor by scheduling some crappy teams over the next few years.

P.S. I'm always in favor of scheduling PItt more!

yeah - I may get downvoted for it but I'm all for the soft schedule for the sanction years. Winning games is the most important thing - even if it is over directional Michigan.

Hawaii, SDSU, Florida Atlantic type would be fine with me for a "bowl" game.

In terms of scheduling, here's what I'd like to see in general each year:

1 big-name team (FSU, Alabama, etc.)
1 team that has a decent name, but not as good (e.g. USF this year, maybe Rutgers)
1 team that is OK, and not a big name (SDSU, e.g.)
    1 bad team.

That's ideally. I'd have no problem with 2-3 cupcakes and one decent team if we're struggling a lot for wins over the next couple of years.

I think it would be great...an easy 20 minute drive to Doak from my house...

  • Sorry about getting hopes up with the title but that's why I put "potential" meaning the opportunity could be there. And suggesting that we would get crushed, ask Jimbo about nc state.

It would be a great 2 games against a pro style opponent lesser than Alabama. With our style of play as of late and what I traditionally see in fsu this would be a good matchup.

Do not forget that in the past year fsu has lost to Wake Forest, nc state and UVA.

  • Title is misleading.

I like the idea though, even if its not FSU. We have to get out and play some teams in states like Cali and Florida over the next few years.

I gave you a +1. Getting more wins on the record will go a long way with recruiting and eventually recovering.

Excellent post EXCEPT for the last line. We want crappy teams, not high school teams.

USF or UCF would be nice as early December games while the sanctions are in place. My guess though is those schedules are all hard. UCF would be a nice matchup for OB and his mentor.

    Mine would be similar:
1 powerhouse team at an NFL stadium like the days when we played USC at the Meadowlands
1 game every year with one of our former regional rivals, Pitt, Cuse, Terps, WVU, Rutgers
1 SEC game every year to help recruiting in the region
    1 Cupcake

This schedule seems risky but it all works out in the end with recruiting. We get the national exposure playing the powerhouse, we get the southern exposure playing the SEC team and we get the regional exposure playing one of our natural rivals.

Completely get your post and normally that's my ideal schedule as well. I just want us to win during these sanction years, I honestly don't care about anything else or who it's over.

I can see why people want a big name once a year though. I just know I got no joy over watching Alabama pound us the last two years, and I don't want to see that every year until we can have a full team.

  • 1. We need big time matchups to put butts in seats.
    2. Goal will be competing for a division championship. Coaches may feel that playing real OOC foes helps with that.
    3. Recruiting. Even if kids can't play in championship games they will want to feel as though they are playing games that could/will decide who plays for the championship.

Have to think that we might be able to get a game with Oregon considering BOB and Kelley are friends and the Phil Knight connection.

Agree with most of this. I like getting wins, but tough OOC games will help with the in-conference. Plus, even if we lose, getting a big game with a great atmosphere will help in recruiting.

Why an NFL stadium? Have a home and home, that way the fans get to travel somewhere unique and we get to show them the Beav.
