Guy wants PSU, unless we completely shit the bed he is ours.
So what, he gets the airtime and a once and a life chance to commit on tv with his family.
I'm sure everyone would understand him looking elsewhere if the coaching staff coming in is horrendous.
If winning was easy even losers would do it.

I hope Jamil picks us today. Will lessen the sting of losing Schutt.

If he chooses today, how can you expect him to choose PSU based on the fact he wouldn't even know who the coach is? If he delays, PSU has a very good chance.

Well, it is a Boston College-PSU choice. Boston College's coaching situation isn't that much better than ours at this time.
I agree it is probably BC at this time. May be able to sway him if LJ stays... SJLuvs Lions probably knows...

Even if he does pick PSU, what happens when LJ isn't retained?
(Unless Coach X already assured LJ that he'd be staying on staff, of course.)

The point is, BC has a coach. I agree, he could very well be gone next year with another subpar season. I find it hard to believe a kid will choose PSU without knowing the name of his position coach, let alone his head coach. This kid is almost certain to verbal IF Johnson is retained. We don't know if he will be. Heck, he might not even know.

The thing is...LJ is obviously very important to our staff and recruiting class. However, I just don't buy that another good staff (absent LJ) couldn't convince some of these prospects to come to PSU. Yeah, there's not much time to develop relationships, but LJ isn't the only good recruiter out there. And before someone accuses me of it, no, I'm not justifying the possibility of LJ leaving. We'd certainly miss him. All I'm trying to say is that even if LJ leaves I believe a number of these kids will still give PSU a chance.
One thing we can say with confidence: whoever we have waiting in the wings to take over as head coach is not violating NCAA rules and contacting recruits early.

I definitely agree with this -- sure, relationships with coaches are important, but the primary sales pitch to recruits has been about the school instead of the cult of personality, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get recruits by making them comfortable with the staff as well.
The one part of the recruiting pitch that might change is the up front emphasis on academics - however, given Erickson's comments about academics, I wouldn't be surprised if maintaining high graduation rates was an issue that would be included in a new coach's contract. We'll find out about that when we start hearing comments by recruits.
