Please dont be true--Silas Redd to USC..

  • LaJollaLion said...

Doesn't seem like it will happen.

If I am a PSU athlete wearing the blue and white each week to crush an opponent would be the single greatest pleasure. Undefeated this year. Hold together and hit like hell. Make Miller, Martinez, Ball, and anyone else crazy enough to try against us pay the price. You want to beat us? You're only hope is to kill us.

IIRC, it didn't turn into a recruiting frenzy like recruiting high school athletes. Schools didn't call USC and say we are recruiting XXX. Didn't the kids say I want to transfer and then give USC a list of schools? Pretty disgusting move by the NCAA as far as PSU. Schools on probation, like OSU, could say we want Silas Redd.

Schools did call us to say they were recruiting our players.

    Yes, it is disgusting.

Sorry about by bad memory then.

I can't remember, did they do this to OSU and its senior class this year? Don't think so.

That's why ultimately I hope you guys can keep your team together and we don't really get Silas in the end. Unity and strength as a team is very important in getting through this. If you look at our practices and off season workouts our team IMO is second to none. We really have something special in our team and I am not being bias. I have seen this over the last two years.

When has the NCAA done anything fair, or logical?

After all, they appointed Paul Dee - you know, the same Paul Dee who was the AD at Miami, the dirtiest program in the history of the world, the one who said "high-profile athletes demand high-profile compliance" - the head of the COI that sat in judgement of USC.

They have their own warped sense of logic and justice.

    Well said.

If Penn State can't win a title this year, then I'm with others on this board pulling for the Trojans. It would be nice to rebel against the NCAA a little. I think that would provide much needed therapy for Penn State fans.

By the way, as a Packers fan too, thank you for Nick Perry. Only 10 career starts, but he looks like an absolute stud. Similar to Matthews (thank you again!) he didn't have a ton of game film or accolades, but was just an absolute monster in the weight room and in his limited game action. Can't wait for those two to come off both edges rushing the passer this year.

They do it only whenever there is a multi-year postseason ban. The same thing happened when Alabama got the two year ban about ten years ago.

Do not want him. I think it would be great for him and the other team leaders at PSU to set the example...finish what you start. Besides, it just doesn't feel right...bad karma...juju...whatever you want to call it.

PSU needs team leaders right now and from all indications, Silas, is that guy on and off the field."

never thought I would say this, but I am really pulling for USC this year. The Trojan visitors have been great...a far cry from the d-bags from our conference foes who seem to be enjoying this too much.

I believe you are incorrect...free agency started with us...there was no precedence.

    Alabama Sanctions:

    Five years on probation.

Barred from going to a bowl or playing in the Southeastern
Conference championship game for two years.

Ordered to reduce football scholarships by 21 over the next
three years. Must also reduce the total number of football players
on scholarship from 85 to 80 during each of those years.

Must ban boosters from traveling on team charters, attending
closed practices and attending or donating money to football camps.

Must face additional penalties if it does not permanently ban
three boosters from having anything to do with the athletic
program. Also must disassociate a fourth booster for at least three
    years.

  • If Silas Redd leaves I would very disappointed in him. He played here for two years and is a team leader. He could play out this year WITH HIS TEAMMATES and go pro at the end of the year. Instead he is thinking of leaving because he cant play in bowl game (most likely and lower bowl).

    No, you are.

    PureRockFury

  • I think there is a reason Redd is not really saying anything. I think he is trying to decide what to do and he torn. We shall see what happens, but it would be a big loss for Penn State. He is the only proven running back on the team. If he leaves Belton goes, we are quickly running out of running back options.

As an aside, I talked to one of my contacts and Temple and he told me their staff thinks they will get a player or two from the PSU roster. He did not give me any names, but he said they feel like they have a good shot at landing one or two PSU kids. I am sure there are a lot more schools out there just chomping at the bit to get our kids, especially the kids with more than a year left.

  • To me leaving for a team like USC is the only way that this sits right for me. You don't just leave to play for UCONN on the outskirts and hope you make a bowl.

I don't mind one bit if teams recruit our players, but with that said, any coach that lurks on campus to run into any of our players is a scum bag. Doesn't seem to be happening with Redd. Plus USC is a good school.

The general anxiety I felt about Silas went down greatly when I saw that Belton is returning.

    Blissios

  • I hope Redd stays and finishes things out with you guys. Team leadership is going to be very important during the sanctions. Barkley was huge for us when the sanctions hit. He rallied the team and maintained a positive disposition. I hope you guys find the equivalent and the team bands together and fights on.

The issue PSU and its coaches have is the NCAA is basically allowing the kids to pick up and leave at anytime within the first year and go and play right away. So, even if any of the PSU kids say they are staying, if they report to camp and get angry or frustrated that they are not running with the first team, if there is another team out there will to take them, they can. So it is not like O'Brien can have them sign anything today, tormorow, or next month stating they are staying - they are free to go when they want, can play right away and PSU can't do anything.

Redd leaving for USC makes little sense for him in all reality. USC is stocked at RB ... he will have limited touches and he has taken a leadership role at PSU.

This is simply not true! He may be a team leader but an opportunity to play in the NFL is nothing to look away from. If he can go to another team and make an impact, there is a good chance of him doing just that. I couldnt even imagine what these players are going through right now. We are just fans, they all commited four years of their lives to get an education and play sports at a high level. That was just taken from them for nothing that they did. I'd still want to play for PSU but that decision may impact the rest of his life and even his families lives.

Im behind all of the players no matter what they decide. I will cheer for them whoever they play for unless they are playing against us. You have to understand that none of them wanted this and if it didnt happen they all would first choose to play for PSU.

as much as it would hurt me me to see Silas Redd in a USC uniform, i would understand his decision. When Silas committed to play for PSU this is not what he thought was going to happen.

If any of these players leave you have to understand, we may not like it but you can't blame them for trying to do what is best for them.
