Please dont be true--Silas Redd to USC..

  • Of anyone, I just thought he would be here for his last year or two..Cant fault him but, he just seemed to be from a different mold..

    mr intensity26349

  • hard to say, but someone posted that it's very unlikely he leaves.

  • Of all the schools, I'm surprised with USC bc of their scolly limitations, but they are in line to win a title this year.. It would hurt seeing him win a heisman with the Trojans...

Taking a PSU player transfer has no effect on scholarship limit, thanks to the good folks at the NCAA. I'm gonna run and puke again.

  • He gets a shot at a title...can't blame him too much. That said, don't think it's gonna happen

  • You sure jt? So a school can take on 10 of our kids and be above the 85 scolly limit? How would other schools who were not able to cash in on that not fight the competitive advantage other schools will gain?

    BaltLions24

  • I did hear on osu radio that if a school is under probation than they have to clear with ncaa first. I do not know if that is accurate.

  • USC already has a senior RB who had 1,000+ yds in 2011. (McNeal)

No automatic that Redd would be the man at USC

Yea they said that any school that takes a PSU player can raise their scholarship cap if they are taking a PSU player. Other schools can complain but nobody will listen. Thats what makes this whole thing such a joke. While punishing the "culture of football" at Penn State, they simultaneously are promoting the same culture to continue. This literally did nothing to fix anything. Its the dumbest thing ever.

I can... he has talked up this game like he was true blue for 3 years and now when he is supposed to be the leader of the team ...he is contemplating a move to USC. How the hell do we sell the program to anyone if the guy who would be our potential all time leading rusher is flirting with Lane Kiffin of all people...How does anything that happened today affect SR...so he doesn't get to go to a Bowl game !

    PSUVA92

  • I hope he stays with you. We could certainly use him, but it doesn't feel right. Whatever he decides, I won't blame the kid, but, I know all too well how much this free agency BS completely SUCKS.

    mownyc

  • Well I don't know how any universities ath dept aren't speaking out about this, especially the smaller schools who are unlikely to land any of these kids.. Basically the NCAA can make up any rules it wants, wish some articles highlight that point..

    BaltLions24

  • As far as I can tell from the NCAA report is that he is one of the players that USC would be interested in. All schools have to let PSU know which athletes they would like to pursue.

    Psu36

  • If the NCAA makes these types of exceptions for a school that is already being sanctioned, such as USC, I think the only logical reaction from me would be to laugh and shake my head.

I believe it is for the first year after that they have to account for the scholarship...so it would only be to their advantage if they could get kids that would graduate next year...However, this late in the game...how many kids would truly help a program? with only one year of eligibility

I hear you and I get it. But Silas is gonna be playing on Sundays after this year, so hes already thinking about that. And he gets a call to come out to hollywood,to be a star and have Matt Barkley hand off the ball to you, and win a national championship, you gotta take that call. You might not go there but when the Yankees call you listen. That being said, I will be physically sick if he leaves.

Surely you can't be serious. Silas owes nothing to PSU. He is free to go wherever he wants. Why should he have to deal with the consequences placed on PSU? How PSU sells themselves is their problem, not his. Who are you to say otherwise? Signing with PSU, I am sure he didn't expect this to ever happen. Since the situation did occur, the NCAA allows him to transfer wherever he wants. More power to him.

They always use RBs by committee, and their number 2 guy graduated.

Also, if you can add an All-American caliber RB, you do it no questions asked. Even as a backup, the depth is almost invaluable.

I second this..I remember all too well how much this hurt, the free agency of our players.

Emotions are high right now, for the players especially. Good luck.

  • Why would you be physically sick? Seriously is it that important in light of everything? You have no control over the situation. Silas will make the best decision for himself. First of all PSU can only have 75 guys on scholarship this year, as far as I know. So unless they had less then 85 players on scholarship, ten have to go, or choose To participate in academics only.

    Tp801

  • It probably went something like this:

Bill O'Brien: "Hi Lane, Bill O'Brien"
Lane Kiffin: "Hey Bill, I am sorry to hear about the harsh sanctions"
OB: "Actually that's what I called to ask about. I understand USC has also had to deal with scholarship limitations."
    Kiffin: "Yes"
OB: "Would you be able to offer any suggestions regarding how to overcome this recruiting obstacle."
Kiffin: "Well you see, I coach at USC so we can just fill all 15 spots with 5 stars and 6'5" WRs. But, umm I guess just be more thorough in your evaluation process to maximize potential of all signees."
OB: "Okay I'll keep that in mind (even though a 12 year old could've told me that). Thank you for your time Lane."
Kiffin: "Wait, wait, Bill. I have one last thing to mention."
    OB: "Please"
Kiffin: "Yea, by the way ummm i know your going through tough times and all. But I'm thinking Silas Redd, your unanimously best offensive player, would do us wonders over at USC."
    OB: F you Lane

But in all seriousness this would really be a shame to lose Silas. Hes a great kid and one helluva ball player.

That is not true. We can have 85 the next two years, then 65 for the following four years.

USC would take him in a nanosecond - No sh!t, Einstein ...

My post's tone was directed more towards "Hey Silas - you might not even get 100 carries if you go there."
