Pitt or OSU?

  • After reading the open letter post to Dorian Johnson and Robert Foster, it got me thinking...

Who do you hate losing recruits to more, Pitt or OSU? The easy answer is Ohio State, and I am guessing that 90% will respond that way. I hate Ohio State as much as anyone, but they fill their stadium, have a good tradition of strong teams, and produce pros (please do not argue this, not the point of the post).

Pitt has nothing. Literally nothing. No tradition, never fill their stadium, and very few pros. Not to mention the revolving door of coaches. Why should we ever lose a recruit to them??? It is very frustraing that the kid cannot see what we see.

I still hate losing recruits to Ohio State more, but more frustrating to Pitt...

  • I hate loosing them to OSU more, but for a different reason than you stated. My reason is that we will have to play against them every year.

This. Losing top recruits to Pitt is mind-boggling sometimes, but at least it's not something we have to deal with down the road. We'll have to see Armani Reeves and Noah Spence playing against us for the next 4 years. That's going to be extremely hard for me to stomach.

  • Definitely OSU. They are a conference rival and we often recruit a lot of the same guys. Plus I just can't stand the state and their arrogant fans. I can live with losing recruits to Pitt, although I'm in the boat that says we should completely dominate the entire state of PA in recruiting.

  • I agree, but then sometimes it works in our favor. My favorite part of the 2008 season was Pryor's fumble at the end of the game...it made the win that much sweeter because he chose them over us.

And that decision seemed to work out well for him, didn't it?

It depends on how good they are. I don't get steamed at losing a Plan B or C kid to Pitt. I get steamed when a kid like Dorian Johnson, or Robert Foster go there because PSU has way more to offer a talented kid than Pitt does.

If they can play, obviously, OSU because we have to face them. However, not every single kid works out. I see two of the four kids Urb flipped from PSU to OSU being busts in Columbus.

  • Losing a recruit to Pitt, you have to understand not every football player wants to be a "Student-athlete" and be challenged both on the field, on the depth chart and in the class room.

  • I'll go with Pitt because it keeps them almost relevant and gives their fans a reason for unrealistic expectations. Not that winning the BigLeast is difficult though.

I love this answer because that is the perfect way to describe it....confusion.

Yeah I can see your point there. But I never wanted Pryor here anyway. Back in high school, a friend of mine played basketball against him and said he was the biggest tool alive (which proved to be pretty accurate). His decision to go to ohio state didn't make things work out poorly. His own character did. I was glad he ended up at tO$U as a scumbag in a scumbag program and he got what was coming to him.

  • I consider ourselves on more of an even playing field with OSU in terms of conference, facilities, stadium, tradition, fan support. We are better than Pitt in every aspect. We should never lose a recruit to Pitt.

I guess I can understand when we lose to OSU, but I cannot understand when we lose to Pitt. My answer is Pitt.

  • IMO, the things that Pitt has going for it are the urban campus (some kids prefer that), for a kid like Dorian Johnson the opportunity to stay close to home, they share facilities with the Steelers, Pitt offers the chance to get an education that it better than most of the schools in the SEC and Big XII, and they do have a couple high profile guys in the NFL, mainly Fitzgerald, Revis, and McCoy. Having said all that PSU should still get 75% of the kids that they are competing against Pitt for b/c OSU and PSU have far and away better facilities/tradition/fan bases, so I would have to say Pitt.

  • Easy for me - Pitt. I am old enough to hate Pitt; to remember how their fans treated Penn Staters, to remember them disrespecting us and our University. I view tOSU like any other SEC team, which is effectively what they are.

I used to be in the camp of "why play Pitt", but I have honestly come around to the fact that I want to play them just to beat the piss out of them year in and year out.

Agreed, we hang half a hundred on them a few times and they won't be quiet so quick to talk trash. I can't wait till we play them in a few years!

I still relish the memory of that wonderful day in Pittsburgh when Marino led them to a 48-14 LOSS!! The Pitt "fans" just melted away after being beyond obnoxious as they jumped on us early. They were absolutely certain they were going to shut us out an pin a big number on us.

Thinking about it right now, I can't wipe the grin off my face.

  • OSU because we have to play them and sPitt is just a worthless program

  • No idea why people get so upset about losing recruits to Pitt. The only reason we ever lose recruits to Pitt (that we actually want) is because of location/family. Pitt has nothing to offer except location to those in the Pittsburgh area.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

  • This might be the easiest question I've ever answered. OSU. Not even close.
