  • Saw this story on pennlive to rename the stadium and thought some may be interested in signing it. I did. The link is below.

  • Not sure I want the stadium to be renamed......I would much rather have one of the streets renamed Paterno Way or I really liked the idea that another poster mentioned of having some sort of Memorial for Cancer victims named after Joe because of all the good work Joe and the football team has done with THON and raising funds.....

  • BTW....I also think that the Creamery needs to keep producing Peachy Paterno!!!!!! toot

  • Don't have a problem with Paterno field, as long as it doesn't develop into Paterno Stadium. Plently of basketball courts are named after coaches.

This is true, and in some cases when they're still actively coaching. "Coach K Court" and "The Summit" are two that come to mind.

  • I'd actually like it to be Paterno Stadium.. and even have it on Paterno Way.

I think that's the most appropriate. Rename the street he always walked to work on after him. It symbolizes not only that, but that he did it the "Paterno Way." Always reminds people of him and what he stood for the minute you see the sign.

I like the Paterno Field idea as well as what Charleston said, but you have to keep the Beaver Stadium intact. It would be an injustice to Gov. Beaver to eliminate his name. His accomplishments and love of both PA and PSU are also legendary.

  • I think Joseph V. Paterno Stadium is what needs to happen. The guy built Beaver Stadium into what it is today. It might not be what he would've wanted because he's given much more back to the University as a whole than just the football program, but it's what should happen.

  • Paterno Library exists and is a great honor to what the man has done for the University. You don't want to overdue things with the renaming stuff to the point it becomes cheapened.

We all have gone to Beaver Stadium and that name on that stadium should remain the same, imo. Granted we do have Beaver Hall and Beaver Avenue, as well. James Beaver was a Civil War hero and former President of the University. Let's not lose sight of past history. You wouldn't want people changing the name on the library 100 years from now.

Renaming the field, feels more right to me. The library and the field seems suitable to the man.

    POV

  • I think the family should be consulted. Personally, I don't think the stadium should be re-named after him because I don't think he would've wanted it that way since he was never about individual glory. If the family supports it, then I am fine with it since they knew him best. But I personally feel there are better ways to honor him that can reflect his impact on education and the university as a whole.

  • I definitely feel they need to do something to name the field or stadium after Joe, so why not make it Beaver Field at Joseph V. Paterno Stadium?? Remember, the name was started as Beaver Field.

I dont want to take away from Beaver, but he also has Beaver Avenue and thats pretty big.

Its Joe's Stadium, he earned it IMO.
