Idiotic. 2/48 isn't a big deal. Assuming you're a pirates fan, imagine being two games out with 46 to play, it's not a big deal. Then factor in that 8/15 teams make the playoffs, and it's really not a big deal. Now if the first 8-10 games are really rough, that's a different story. Two games are not that important. Bryz was a top goalie the two years before he came to Philly. He had a horrendous start and a decent finish last year. Maybe he gets back there, maybe he doesn't. Writing him off after 60 minutes, where he played well, as you did is ridiculous. Sorry sir.

Well first off, other than the last 2 years, once the Pirates were 2 games under, we were out of it (keep in mind that we still haven't finished over .500 since 92).
I am trying to explain to you that the Flyer's have a chance to lose the next 2 games. If they lose 2 more, well they could be in trouble in a 48 game season. There isn't time to re-shuffle line-ups, make the usual changes, try guys from the minors, evaluate players for trades, etc cause all teams are still in it. If you start out 4 games under 500 with half of a season left and play around .500 hockey even, you're out. Teams that shouldn't even make the play-offs will this year. It will be interesting for sure, but my original point is that they won't steal any games with Bryz in net. yeah, he will win his fair share because you score 4 or 5, but you better score that many if you want to win with him.
The defense needs to block more shots like the Rangers and Penguins do too.

Pirates point goes over your head. Noted.
Your statements that the flyers were pretty much screwed came after a one goal loss where they controlled a majority of the play for two periods. Idiotic.
And no, falling four games under isn't the end. First of all, the most they could be behind first place after that is four games. Four games under with 44 to play in a full season would put them well behind first, but in a shortened season, not so much. Factor in that eight teams make the playoffs and it's not a huge deal. 500 teams should have a great shot at the playoffs, and I do not think anyone outside of you expects them to be a 500 team.
Worry about your pens and let flyers fans worry about their team.

I think my argument was that they don't have an above average goalie That if they don't do something soon, they could be in trouble since this guy can't steal wins for your crap team.
Maybe you should employ the trap, oh wait you can't because your goalie always gives up the first goal.

As a hockey fan, you should know if your defense sucks, you could have Marty Broduer between the pipes, it wouldn't matter. Bryz is an above average goalie. He isn't top 12-15 though. Explain to me why he was successful in Phoenix? Because of the team's style of play. They were a more defensive oriented team. I'm sure Philly would dump Bryz is they could based on that contract. Hindsight is 20-20. Then again, he isn't the crux of the problem. Philly can't score either. Goalie is basically third behind defense and offense.

Well if he is 13th at best in your reasoning, that would be far from above average.
The Coyotes were a defensive minded team. For sure better defensively, but also had little to no scoring if you will remember. Other than Doan, they really were pretty weak. Whereas, the Flyers have quite a few offensive players. Yeah, missing Briere and not having Jagr hurt, but decent overall.

Who do the Flyers have that are true offensive players besides Giroux, Briere, and maybe Hartnell?
Have you looked at the top lines of other Atlantic Division teams?
They have NO offense whatsoever.
I can't believe Holmgren hasn't been fired yet. He is destroying the franchise.

Simmonds can get you 30 in an 82-game schedule; Read and Voracek can get you 20. Stop it with the we don't have options. I was led to believe by Flyers fans that Couterier was the next coming of Ron Francis. He can score too.
You have more scoring options than New Jersey and the Islanders for starters.

sbrubakerjr said...
You really think Simmonds will be a 30 goal scorer? Never.
The Flyers HAD options...and then they traded them all away. Which is why I said Holmgren needs to go.
Another reason the Flyers lose...they have an old stale system. Everyone knows how to beat it, especially the NJD.

Oh that is funny...I thought 30 was a bigger number than 28, my bad.
How many goals did he have in 11 play-off games last year? How many does he have in 3 games this year?
You know I am not a Flyers fan, right? I am beginning to see why everyone around here thinks so "highly" of you...

They miss Carle more than they miss Jagr IMO. They don't have a puck moving defenseman right now. Timonen isn't nearly as effective. Grossman certainly can't do it; nor can Schenn, or Meszaros.
As far as Phoenix ... Bryz's last year, they were balanced offensively - much like St. Louis last year. Doan led with 20 and they had five others within two goals of 20.
Bryz isn't the reason why they are 0-3 and could be 0-4 after the meeting with the Rags. They can't score; they can't defend and they take stupid penalties.

Jagr made Giroux better and is a locker room presence. Carle? not so much.
Pretty much every NHL team has 4 guys within 2 or 3 goals of 20 goal seasons...They were not as balanced as you think. It was Doan, and Doan, and well Doan carrying the offense. Spend a lot of time in Phoenix over the years with a house in Chandler. The one thing you are right on is Phoenix having some good puck movers on defense.
I am again not saying that Bryz isn't an average goaltender, just not above average. On nights when they play poor offensively, he gets exposed. I saw him play quite a bit in his first 3 years in Phoenix and he was awful until the 3rd.
Gotta get ready to go to the Penguin game, later.
