Penn State offers JUCO QB

  • PSU should be a no brainer for him. If ever there was a match between system and skill set it is here. The opportunity to learn from BOB is something that KSU could never compete with. It makes too much sense.

  • Great news! Hope this kid is really into PSU!

PS Sean, you have a typo in there.....Waters....not Warner. - "Fisher watched Warner work out and got a chance to speak with him briefly."

Cannot overstate how important this kid could be. Top JUCO QB in the country. He at worst pushes Bench, at best wins the job, unquestionably brings us the depth we need, counts as an EE (which we are struggling to fill at this point, but absolutely must) so we can use our 15 spots without him, allows Hack to redshirt.

    We need this kid.

IMO, in this instance, you don't bring in a JC transfer to sit the bench as a back up. I like what Bench brings to the table. He has some qualities that could make him a dangerous QB for PSU. However, he has only had what, 10 snaps in his collegiate career and it doesn't look like he will get much more unless ...

I agree, this kid is a must have to bring our roster to three QBs next year. You can't be in a situation in which Bench and Hack are your two lone rangers.

Honestly, Waters reminds me a bit of Bench. Mobile, but solid passers. Both around 6'2", both fairly underrecruited coming out of HS (Waters more so, obviously).

  • Didn't Sean state earlier that BOB has connections with one of the coaches at Waters JC? That will help as well!

I believe it was the O-line coach / running game coordinator that played under Bill at Maryland.

  • Slightly off topic, but to what extent can we find quality JUCO guys at other positions that might be able to fill in gaps over the next 4 years? Looking through the Rivals site, it appears there are a handful of them from PA and might be solid run-on candidates if they're able to afford in-state tuition.

The problem with bringing in JUCO guys who can't EE this year is that they will only be around for 2 years. With the limit being at 15 a year we need each guy to be here for 4 or 5 years so that we can have as close to 60 scholarship players after the 4 years of that limitation is up. We start taking 2 year guys then we lose a scholarhip player early and cannot replace him on the team.

  • Nebraska finds a lot of quality JUCO guys. LaVonte David, Mohammed Seisay, Dejon Gomes, and Ricky Henry were JUCO. They average 2ish JUCO players a year.

Your midwest schools are notorious for going the JC route. Kansas State brought in 10 a year under Snyder during his first term. You don't want to load up on them. You bring them in to start or have a big role as a second teamer, not to sit and rot on the bench.

  • PSU needs this kid badly to act as a bridge between McGloin and Hackenberg/Bench. As much as I think the young QBs will be successful I would not feel good about having a RS FR as our starting QB next year. I think both of the young kids will need some time to mature and with DOB wasting away of Wisky's bench we need this kid in the worst way. I'm still mad DOB picked Wisky over us and I bet he's regretting it now too.
