Penn State holding off on statue decision

  • Statement from the university:

"Contrary to various reports, neither the Board of Trustees nor University Administration has taken a vote or made a decision regarding the Joe Paterno statue at Beaver Stadium."

    Actually, this is pretty funny.

Because the idiots on XM radio this morning were saying how stupid it was that PSU was spending time voting on whether or not to take the statue down, they should be discussing compensation for the victims.

    My opinion....

There are two (maybe 3) important sources of info that wont' be known until Sept at the earliest.
    1) Curley/Schultz trial
    2) Posnanski book
    3) Ongoing GJ invetigation

No need to rush to judgement here.

  • It needs to be moved and moved now. Bowden was correct. It will only be a source of controversy not only for the university, but the family as well as long as it remains in place. If Joe is ultimately exonerated, it can be moved back. The only way to even begin the healing is to take positive steps that reflect a desire to move on. Putting the statue at the library is something Joe would also no doubt approve and encourage.

  • If it stays, they have to at least remove the "humanitarian" text from the wall behind his statue.

For the record, I think it should be taken down and put in the All-Sports Museum.

I have heard this before, and I think it is a great idea. I believe it to be a happy medium for everyone. The statue is just moved to a less visible location. If you want to go see it, you can. If you want to avoid it and forget about it, you can.
