Not to be an ass, but I know all about the hard time for CU fans because I went to school in Colorado. I do remember that chant that gave me pause to question Nebraska fans - "Sal is dead, go Big Red." Nebraska fans are a very classy bunch, but I lost alot of respect for them that day.

Rightfully so.... I think every program has things we don't like to address or talk about, this being one for Nebraska.

I appologize as I have never heard anything about the 94 PSU team as a better team than Nebraska.

Only argument I have is we played the #1 team at home in the Orange bowl. We won, which gave us the title.

There are alot of knowledgeable people in football who believed PSU was better. PSU's team was just as good, if not better.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about Nebraska as I haven't been able to watch any of their games.

I like our offense as long as they minimize mistakes. Frankly, the only teams that have stopped our offense, IMO, are 1) OSU and 2) ourselves. Our offense has a penchant for making mistakes and killing their own drives with drops, poor throws, etc. So far they've done pretty well on the road. We'll just have to see what happens.

Thats what really stops our offense, stupid penalties and ourselves as a whole.

I am now very curious and I will go back and watch highlights of PSU in 94.

I am not trying to be arrogant, just uneducated in the PSU history.

  • Early betting line has Nebraska (-7). I guessed that it would be about 5.

Should be a competitive game... Hopefully Hill and Carter are able to play, then I like our chances better.

No problem ... however, some friendly advice and you can take it as you wish. I will warn you though from my standpoint. Don't make blanket statements like you have when you admittedly don't know anything about PSU's 1994 season. You open yourself up to get blasted. I did this with OSU fans as well.

http://www.linebacker-u.com Ranked #1 in the country and led by one of the most prolific offenses in college football history featuring quarterback Kerry Collins and tailback Ki-Jana Carter, Penn State treated the Homecoming crowd to a 63-14 beatdown of Ohio State, the most lopsided defeat for the Buckeyes since the dawn of the 20th century. Somehow though, the AP poll would drop Penn State to #2 after this game in favor of a Nebraska team that won at Colorado by only a couple of touchdowns. Nope, no media bias there... • Or how about PSU's first play from scrimmage against Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

    Play

    Ki-Jana Carter - 83-yard TD vs Oregon - 19...

In the 1995 Rose Bowl, Ki-Jana Carter exploded 83-yards for a touchdown on Penn State's first offensive play from scrimmage. If there is one play that serves as a microcosm of Penn State's perfect 12-0 1994 season, it's this one - which displays the speed, power and explosiveness of arguably the greatest offense in college football history.

To me, this is OSU all over again, except on the road. You have a predominant running offense (Martinez and Abdullah), like Miller and Hyde. Martinez is a much better passer than is Miller. It's not close. Both teams are prone to coughing up the ball, Nebraska and OSU. It's trying to force turnovers ... use ball control offense to keep Martinez and crew on the sidelines. This is where we might miss Carter if he doesn't play. I can see a heavy dose of Zwinak and the TEs. Nebraska's defense has holes, just like OSU's did. We will see if BOB learned something from his play calling debacle two weeks ago.

Yep. This is why I'm worried about Saturday. It's essentially OSU-lite (no offense Nebraska fans), but we're without our best security blanket and our best DL. If T-Money gets something going quickly I don't know if we'll be able to keep our capable DTs enough to stop Rex from having a huge day up the middle (if he plays) or eating up blocks to keep Mauti and Crew free.

Also, IMO if our OL doesn't have a great day McGloin will struggle in a tough environment.

Its a shame these two teams didn't meet on the field... Thats one time for sure besides 97 where the Rosebowl tie in screwed up the NC game.

I tried not to talk to much about it but since several people on this board know the history of Colorado and Nebraska I hope everyone else can understand my dislike for Nebraska. So I am not trying to be a smart arse when I say I respect their fans, work with many and have some as friends, but I do not think they are the best in college football.

At this point, I'd say Rex is pretty unlikely. But Abdullah is just as problematic. He'll hit you for 8 yards off a simple sweep, he did do time and time again against the Spartans. He's now got three straight 100+ yard games and five on the season.

How do you all think Penn State will handle the outside run game? Something you're strong at, weak at, or not much to reference?

I like Abdullah, but a bruiser like Rex would be very tough to stop since Hill is most likely out at DT. Not that Terry isn't competent, he's just not Hill.

JMO. I'll be interested to see what y'all come up with to try and freeze our linebackers.

What's your take on the d-line and Baker Steinkuhler specifically? Would he have been better off staying at OT where he was a 5* coming out of Southwest?

We have two outside linebackers who will probably go in the second or third rounds. Hodges and Mauti. If they have good games your outside run game will be shut down. I'm more concerned with your option runs up the gut.

  • Martinez always seems to make the clutch throw when he needs to. One minute he throws to a saftey the next he looks like Brady. But I agree it will be the read option that beats us.
