Haha I think Mahon will be 4* by the final rankings. Not sure what they need to see from Douglas to bump him up, but no matter how they rank him, he's still a very good prospect for us.

Why would Auburn with four 4* and two 3* be ranked lower than us with three 4* and three 3*?

Way too early to be worried about this stuff. Does it really matter?

I don't get the begging for stars for verbals from fans.

Yeah, I don't think you've made that clear enough.

People want to see highly ranked classes. Believe it or not, it has an affect on recruits. It's obvious you don't care, but a lot of people do. Not a big deal.

  • It's still too early to take rankings seriously. There will be a ton of camps over the next few months, a lot of prospects still haven't been unearthed yet, and senior seasons and all-star games are yet to be played.

It is wrong to say this stuff does not matter. Having highly rated classes can contribute to positive momentum for a program. Perception is a large part of the reality of college football.

  • While it's not a huge deal to me personally, BOB is going to be judged by what ranked class he brings in. A couple guys being bumped to 4*'s could be a huge difference in ranking.

In the end, people see the rankings, they dont see the potential. Of course that's only half of it, the other half is of course winning.

  • Much different problem than recent years when people are complaining about the rankings of the number 11 class.

Technically, it won't make a big deal in 247's ranking, because for them the stars don't matter - the grades do. If they move from 89 to 90 (3* to 4*), it will make less than a point difference in the final ranking.

Maybe the kid should do the talking with his play on the field to earn the fourth star instead of some PSU fan begging for stars of a verbal. It's freakin late March ... these kids haven't even finished their junior year. They haven't even had one snap of their senior football season. We are 11 months from signing day and people are worried about stars and team rankings? Lots can change between now and then as we of all people should know.

No, I don't care. I care about how this class ranks three years down the road (of course, they don't re-evaluate these things), certainly not how they rank 11 months away from signing day let alone on signing day.

It's possible for people to care about both the ratings and how they do down the road. As leftcoastlion said, perception matters, whether you think so or not. People are going to ask why "Player Z" is ranked lower than they think he should be, and nothing's going to change it. Just better to accept it, especially since it's not a big deal.

But, in a post by a poster I have on ignore for a variety of reasons and the only reason I saw his post is because you responded to it ... he said XXX deserves a fourth star - fix your rankings! That isn't asking why ... that is begging or being an as*. It gets old. This same poster would be begging these same people for star upgrades if PSU landed the top player from the state of Alaska (Barrow High School) saying he deserves a four star because he is the top player in the state. That is usually his type of rationale. Yes, it doesn't matter to me, but it gets old and even when I put him on ignore, I still see his posts because people respond. Agree to disagree

I agree Big Mo means a lot! Look at Urb, not much talk about him being the great recruiter at the moment but just 2 months ago he was the greatest recruiter of all time. I think he came in, signed some good recruits, and Big Mo took over from there. I am not one to cry about what he did to us because I hope we have a chance soon to return the favor to them.

  • PSU has 3 4* and 3 3* and UNC has 1 4* and 5 3* and somehow they rate above us??.. Anyway, way to early to rank 'em IMHO. Lets rank the full class of 20 commits and not the first 6 or 7 verbals.

Lol, its a recruiting website. Imagine it, people actually wanting their teams recruits to be the highest ranked. What is the world coming to.

I have no worries about the star ratings of recruits......Chris Bell was a 5* and so was ALE, what did they bring to the table?

    My question was purely Mathematical.

I was expecting the cognoscenti to say that our 4* players have a higher rating number, that drives our ranking etc.....Not to tell me to worry about recruiting rankings, ironically, on a recruiting web site chat forum!

    Sam Fritz

  • Yea, stars dont matter that much. I would gladly take a 2* or no star if LJSR is recruiting him. You have to trust the coaches. They knw talent when they see it. So chill! cool
