  • bummer brandon austin didn't want to stay apart of this class, could have really plunged us forward with recruits and just becoming a better program

  • You know, looking at this class really does make it seem almost fortunate (for lack of a better word) that Frazier will be around for next season. This year will be a real drag, but next year could be real fun to watch.

With Frazier most likely returning next year, the team could actually be pretty good and it could be the year that takes the program to the next level.

  • I'm not very high on julian Moore. Big men rarely pan out in today's game.

If you notice in bball recruiting and in NBA drafts: any big man who is not a total stiff is considered a five star or a top prospect, regardless of offensive ability.

The rest are considered projects, and rarely any of these ever pan out.

If you notice, Moore is the 15th ranked center, and is barely even rated as a 3 star. That should tell you a lot about how rare it is to find any big man who is not a total stiff. And most of those top guys are going to KY, Duke or UNC.

The last decent big man we had was Jan Jagla. The rest of them have been role players or bench players.

I think pat chambers know this and is focused on acquiring quality players due to his four guard system. And is not likely to waste scholarships on big men like PSU has in the past.

  • Have you ever seen Moore play?

  • yeah but having a great defensive big man is huge in college basketball, someone who protects the rim and swats shots can change an entire game, saint joes had a great shot blocker which kept them in games last year

I'm sure he is a solid player, but he is not a shot blocker, and I don't think his game is going to have a big impact scoring down low.

The last low post scorer PSU had was Jemelle Cornley. He was 6' 5

  • You need big men to defend in Chambers system. Points come from the others. A shit blocker is a must and he's ver athletic. Big get for PSU!!

    stormpsu1

  • St.joes still has that shot blocker...cj Aiken and Moore has a very similar build as him. St.joes, if they make the tourney this year, will be a very tough out because of him.
I'll take an athletic 6'9" kid any day of the week.

A shit blocker is okay unless your opponent uses an enema offensive attack!

    Moore is a shot blocker.

I'm extremely excited about him. A 6'10 guy with speed? That sounds perfect for Chambers' offense. Get him in the program, bulk him up a bit with a college weight program, and we've got ourselves a C who is athletic enough to be a force in transition.

I'd be interested in finding out his wingspan though.

ez why so negative on the kid. He was recruited because of his athletic ability, Chambers runs a high tempo O, the bigs are expected to run with the guards, this kid can do that. Give him a little time in the program with proper nutrition and weight training and see what happens. This is the type of player Chambers is going to go after, athletic 6'7 ish with athleticism. Where did you see he can not block shots?

  • Good thread. Lots of interest still in hoops. Good to see here. PC is the guy.

  • I'm not negative on him, I'm realistic. What are the odds of a 3-star big man turning into a solid contributor. Very low.

The odds of any basketball recruit progressing is low. I don't see your point here.

We're PSU, we don't have the luxury of being upset about a 3* kid. Especially one who fits what our very good coach wants.

I'm happy with him, sounds like an exciting prospect.

  • Chambers put together a solid class. There are things to like about everyone of these guys. Unlike many years in the past I believe all of these guys will contribute during their Penn State career. On paper this looks like the best recruiting class we've had since I've been following recruiting. I'm optimistic about the program moving forward despite how bad this year will be.
