Penn State Discipline

  • Taken from ESPN Big Ten Blog today:

"Penn State discipline: Without a huge margin for error, the Nittany Lions can't afford to hurt themselves with silly mistakes. And so far, they haven't done that much. Penn State ranks ninth in the FBS for fewest penalties per game, and the team has drawn only five yellow flags in its first two Big Ten conference games combined."

Yet another great example of the exceptional coaching displayed by BOB and his staff. Impressive!

  • I do remember hearing that we were one of the least flagged teams in the nation. I think I heard that shortly before the...Illinois game? It was right before the game where we had a bunch of flags on us.

We haven't been flagged much, but when we are, it often seems to be questionable (sometimes flat out BS) and in very key situations.

If there was such a stat, we would probably rank near the bottom in cost per penalty.

  • Take away the Temple game (9 penalties for 100 yds) and Penn State might be top five nationally or better.

I think you've gotta give credit to the previous staff as well as the current staff for this one.
