Paterno considered pulling PSU out of the Big Ten

  • after the 2005 Michigan screw job.

I'll be downloading this book to my Kindle on Tuesday.

    See #10 in the link

Flounders: 10 fascinating sports facts revealed in Joe Paterno biography

In addition to facts revealed about Paterno and his response to the Jerry Sandusky scandal, Joe Posnanski's book is revealing from a sports perspective.

  • Joe was powerful, but to think he could pull PSU out of the Big Ten is preposterous. He could "consider" it all he wanted and it still wouldn't happen.

I am considering stealing Miranda Kerr away from Orlando Bloom.

It took me a really, really long time to get over # 10. I can't imagine the thoughts that were going through Joe's head after that game

The point isn't whether Joe could actually remove the football team from the Big 10, it was that he was so pissed off by the officiating that he openly talked to other about his desire to remove the team from the Big 10.

  • Getting screwed by the refs had become a theme for us, wonder if refs will be more biased against us now

  • Paterno would never have been able to pull PSU out of the B1G.

Yes! Once we are out of time outs and can't challenge (like 'bama game) you can bet the farm that some game changing bad calls will occur.

  • It's too bad he didn't have the authority to get us out of this conference. Of course he was pissed. Penn State doesn't deserve to be treated as a second class institution to anyone, and that's how it will always be in the big2 little10.

  • The Big is an OSU-UM Axis of Evil. Always has been; always will be.

Do you guys remember about 10 years ago when one of the BIG underlings (Illinois, I think) was way up on Michigan and then a series of terrible calls turned the game around and Michigan won? After the game, the coach of the screwed team commented on the refs. What did the BIG do - instead of reviewing all the calls and apologizing to the losing team, they censured the losing coach and fined him.

If it wasn't for JoePa pushing for instant replay after the Iowa debacles, it would still be almost impossible for UM and OSU to lose - except to each other.

Wait until our buddies at Nebraska get a load of about four seasons of BIG football - then they might regret their decision to join the BIG.

I think I made it through a good way through a 13 part plan to destroy the Big 10 officials headquarters following it, so I can relate.

It's not the Axis of Evil if you win.

If we ever burn all 3 timeouts on the first drive of the game again, we deserve bad calls.

You cease to be witty when you use the same line on every thread. Now you are just a broken record.

With the sample of the record we get, it seems it was crappy regardless.

  • Someone post the pic of the Hartsock "catch" where the ref is staring at it hitting the ground. That's my favorite.

Hamilton Huh? OSU is on probation and serving sanctions. Not sure what preferential treatment you are referring too. I wasn't flaming just stating winning cures all ills.

  • We are not the only team that has been screwed by bad calls there are bad calls every year look at Miami Ohio State, it happens and it is going to keep happening. How many bad calls happened last year. If not for Paterno's insistence instant replay would not be used in the Big 10 so I hate to say it some good has come out of the bad calls. I don't buy into the conspiracy theory and I agree when we use 3 time outs in 1 quarter we put ourselves in a pretty bad spot.

I never understood why people thought the refs were biased against psu. Just another facet of the weird victim mentality culture that a lot of the older fans seem to cling to.

Every fan of every team in all sports believes the refs are biased against their squad at times. In my estimation, they are very rarely correct. Fans, including myself, put 10 times as much mental energy into the calls that go against us than we do the calls that go for us, and in the end we only remember those calls that screwed PSU. During games, I know I often look at another fan and say something along the lines of "we dodged a bullet there!" but I can't seem to remember those occasions although I could rattle 10 times PSU got shafted by the refs without thinking too hard.

I'd say our fanbase was a little extra paranoid before the scandal and I'd attribute it to all the undefeated seasons without championships. Nothing makes you think there is an anti-Penn State bias like finishing #2 and undefeated in back-to back years (68-69)
