I doubt none of us would be on this board if it was not for Joe, no matter what some are saying. The man deserves to be honored in a HUGE way. People need to stop acting like he does not deserve this. Those of you who disagree with me are in denial..you are a PSU football fan because of Joe Paterno.

He was a coach and a humanitarian but there is a point where the mourning becomes a bit much.
He was not a god. He was a man. He died. It's time to move on. At what point is it enough for some people? Might as well name it Paterno State University, rename all the street signs and make every street stop at 409
...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

Not my point. My point is it is fine for people to honor him as long as they feel they need to. For me, I payed my respects at his gravesite and would support the stadium renamed or whatever the family feels would be appropriate. I have moved on and am in full support of BOB, but I would not be a fan without Joe's work.

So you want to give the family cart blanche to do whatever they want because you feel he was "wronged"?
I don't get it - what about BOB? What about the rest of the University? What about those that came before him or will come after him; whether it be humanitarian or coach? People are diminishing the works of others because of one man they felt got wronged.
What person's road is going to be renamed? Because if you rename Curtin or Beaver or another road you're taking away from them. If you rename University Ave you've just dictated that Paterno State University is how he's viewed by the masses.

who cares how were viewed by the masses? we are penn state, we stand together in times of trouble. we stand behind obrien, but renaming the stadium does not mean the whole university is "paterno state university," it means just that we renamed the stadium after the most influencial person in the history of the football program

And you ducked my question.
You said and I quote , "For me, I payed my respects at his gravesite and would support the stadium renamed or whatever the family feels would be appropriate."
So ,are you saying, you would want to give the family cart blanche to do whatever they want because you feel he was "wronged"?
It's a simple yes or no question

OK, so then you're fine with placing James A. Beaver in less regards than Joe Paterno? So much so that you're taking away something given to him for all he did for his country, his state and the University?
That's fine - just so we're clear. You want to put a man that coached some football ahead of the 20th Governor of Pennsylvania? Put Joe, a football coach, ahead of a war hero (wounded numerous times in action)? Put Joe, a guy that gave some of his salary back to his employer, back to a man that loved his country so much gave up his leg.
Joe Paterno was not a god , as so many people viewed him. He was a man, that coached some football games and made sure some kids got their education. No more...no less.

Should the family have carte blanche? I believe the family is in a better position to know what Joe would have wanted vs his fans. I believe Joe would have been embarrassed to have the field or the stadium named after him. Let the family decide or at least have some serious input.
How can you honor the man by dishonoring his wishes?

While I feel Joe deserves to be honored, I don't think renaming Beaver Stadium is what he would have wanted.
I find it cool that while other schools name stadiums/practice facilities after coaches, at Penn State, Paterno's name adorns a Library. Really symbolizes what Joe was all about- Success with Honor.
I think the stretch of Curtain road between Porter Rd. & University Dr. should be renamed 'Paterno Way' so the busses will approach the stadium taking the 'Paterno Way' before every game. JMO
