PSU Going After NY O-Lineman?

  • I received a text from a friend saying PSU may be trying to get a four/five star OL recruit from New York to flip. No name was given. Anyone hearing something similar or have any idea of who this could be? I only see Jarron Jones matching that description.

The only other NY lineman I can think of is Miles Bartholomew - I think he's on Akeel Lynch's team, but he's not a 4/5* lineman. Jones is definitely the only guy that matches the description.

And I doubt that's going to happen. The 2012 class is pretty much done. Maybe the staff will get someone to flip somewhere, but I'm not counting on it. Depending on who it is, probably worth just saving the scholarship for next year.

  • It's Jarron Jones, and there's a very very small likelihood that he will flip from ND.

  • What was his reason for de-committing? I know it was pre-scandal, but I do not remember why.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

He just liked ND better. People speculated as to the recruiting pitch Brian Kelly made to him, but I doubt anyone knows for sure. Based on his comments (about ND), it sounded like they appealed to being similar to his HS - smaller, private academic school, in addition to coaching stability.

  • The chances Jones coming here are about the same as Spence. Not gonna happen.

  • Coaching stability? No team in the nation has had a coach in one place as long as Penn State. While Notre Dame has had 3 coaches in 10 years. Can't use coaching stability as an excuse ti choose ND.

Well, it turned out to be appropriate, didn't it? Kids have been using that as an "excuse" to choose other schools for many, many years. Now they've got another excuse - we're tainted.

And yeah, I know ND isn't very stable, and I don't expect Kelly to last very long, honestly. But kids are also gullible. Look at the ones heading to Rutgers thinking they'll win national championships.

  • Sorry everyone, my friend just texted again and said he meant DB and not OL. He was referring to Wayne Morgan, which I believe said PSU came calling too late in the game. Mods, please feel free to lock the thread down.

That'd better odds than I would have expected.

We were trying to flip Jarron Jones FWIW, so you're not way off...but I think that ship sailed a while ago.

Well they certainly are putting in the effort. Let's hope it bears some fruit in the 2013 class.
