  • Do you think the 409 record should stand? This is in no way a flame, but Im wondering how you feel about your 409 Badges. I personally think they need to be ripped away like Paternos statue. I know you dont care how I feel about it, but how do you honestly feel about it? Do you feel dirty for sporting it? Let me also say I hope the University heals from this. I know there are tens of thousands of PSU Alums that is sick to their stomachs over this.

    Im not bitter. My Dad has coached Highschool football in the state of Florida for 40+ years. He never pulled for a particular college or NFL team, but always loved and respected Joe Pa. I liked Joe Pa a great deal and hated when this came out. I just dont think that the record or statue should stay as I see it only a huge distraction for PSU to put this awful situation behind them.

  • I requested mine be taken away.. I dont kno how I feel about the record.. Pete Rose is banned from baseball but he still has the record for most hits. Whats done on the field is done on the field.. It isnt proven that he cheated.. I think the badge was a great idea but at this point is inapropriate. I think we should have a badge that represents PSU, because PSU football is more than joe paterno.. And that was definitly a flame, a soft flame but a flame.

    Agreed all should be locked up. If Paterno was caught in this cover-up back in the early 2000's he never would have had the record. He would be behind bars. Am I right?

    Yes the record stands. What happened has nothing to do with on-field performance. The statue...I am reserving judgement. I see both sides, and that is all I will say about it now.

  • I haven't reached 409 yet but I think there should be another option for those who do not feel comfortable w/ the 409 shield. Chipmunk head logo? Block blue S--I like this idea... also matches the S-Zone.

    clap Absolutley. PSU is a classy institution and thats why Im asking the questions. I have family members in the NorthEast that went there and are of the opinion that somethings need to be seperated for the Institutions sake. No flame, but I understand how it could appear as one. Thanks for the response.

  • I understand why people would want the statue to come down. If Joe is guilty of one thing, it is an incredible lack of leadership when it was needed the most, and that is what the statue symbolizes. He needed to stand up and be heard, when he realized his superiros were doing f*ck all about the allegations from McQuery - especially since he knew that Sandusky was being investigated for SOMETHING. Even if he didn't know why he was being investigated, that mere fact alone should have rung alarm bells clear as day. Instead he must have squashed his own instinct and just moved on. Basically, I'd like the statue to stay, but would never argue with those who want it gone at this point.

    But...his record at Penn State, while now is not the time to talk about it, is not complicit.

    One of my lessons of life:

    Life is not a zero sum game. Your failures don't disqualify your successes. Your successes don't forgive your failures.

    Joe failed, but his life has also been something to celebrate because of the good he's done for his community and his University. You have to take the bad with the good, and IMO we shouldn't touch his record.

    Personally, I'm proud to wear the 409 because of allt he good those 409 wins did Penn State, and the lessons that were taught along the way.

    No. Freeh's report didn't indicate any kind of illegal activity from Joe.

    Yes not just thousands Hundreds of Thousands I know would be more accurate. I know every fanbase has their Village Idiots. Ours has plenty, but I know that this is so many terrible things meshed together for PSU Alumni and fans.

    To be behind bars you have to do something illegal.

    To have wins vacated you have to violate NCAA rules.

    Neither happened. What he did, rather didn't do, was by far and away enough to get him fired and more. However, he didn't break the law as written. Some may now try to point to perjury, but there is not enough direct evidence to prove that in the court of law, no matter what any of us might think/want.

    I'll have mine shortly and I'll drop by your board. The 05' Orange Bowl was by far the best game I've ever been to.
