FWIW, I listened to Phil and Jed last night and again today. Here's a summary of some points that came out throughout the show.
Phil seems to think that PSU has found its guy. He has a bunch of contacts in the administration (no idea who or what level) and each has apparently given him that indication. No idea if it's true or not, but that's what Phil is hearing.
Jed wants the guy named yesterday because of the impact on recruiting. Phil had a couple comments on that. (a) we're in a dead period now until after the first of the year, so not having a head coach named probably won't have that much impact (b) many of our key recruits still really want to come here, but they're taking a wait and see approach, (c) it might be taking a while to name the new guy because PSU is be extra careful to vet the guy 100% - don't need any skeletons coming out of the closet a couple weeks or months down the road, (d) have to have new coach named shortly after bowl so they get all the recruits on campus for official visits on Jan. 13 - 15, (e) real important to have a guy who can sell the program, buys into grand experiement/success with honor, and represents a new beginning.
Phil also said that he's never seen an information blackout at PSU like he's seen in this coaching search.
Sounds like Phil doesn't think TB has much of a chance. As far as he knows, TB isn't looking at any other jobs.
Apparently no truth to the rumor that Tom Clements interviewed for the HC job. Phil and Jed think that if Clements interviewed, it might have been for the OC job.
Phil cautions not to believe anything you see on the internet. So many false rumors out there.
Both Phil and Jed can't understand why Spanier isn't catching more heat and isn't under investigation.
That's about it.
If I was smart, I wouldn't read anything else or listen to any sports shows until the new coach is announced because 99% of it is probably bogus.

I love Clements, but it would be a stretch to offer him the keys to one of the better jobs in college football. But as an OC? It would be a home run hire. Great offensive mind who has plenty of experience and all of a sudden PSU could end up being one of the better destinations for QB recruits who want to play on Sundays.
There was talk about Clements last night. 58 years old, probably not going to get a sniff as an NFL HC for whatever reason. PA native - Steeler's staff for several years. Would probably take a pay cut to come to PSU as an assistant, but life in State College might make up for that. Also practiced law for five years. Not a bad idea to have a guy on the staff who is an atty.
So maybe we get a big name we're all happy with as HC, someone like Clements as OC and maybe Darren Perry as DC. Not sure if Vandy and LJ would be staying if Darren Perry becomes DC.
I actually think Nate and Ryan do a better job than Phil on BWI. Seems like Phil just read what Nate broke earlier in the day.. Nate actually spoke about it before anyone else (including Ed and Comm) if I recall correctly.
It's hard for me to believe there isn't serious smoke if some bonafide insiders and mods have all said they've heard the same thing. Ed and Comm barely ever post, and when they do, they aren't posting BS.
