A kid ranked #1 in the country from Georgia with offers from every SEC school chooses to go to Clemson?

He had two teammates on the team commit to Clemson this cycle, and one did it this week.

IMO, it has more todo with this than anything.

I'm excited to see how Dabo can go 8-4 with this team, their talent will be unreal in two years.

  • Clemson has always been a program that underachieves year in and year out that somehow has the uncanny ability to attract quality players. Sweeney can recruit without question.

If they can hold onto Dabo, and maybe just as importantly Chad Morris, they'll do quite well for themselves in the next few years.

Hold onto Dabo? People in the ACC were cheering when they gave him that 4 year extension.

Phenomenal recruiter, but a pretty awful head coach. He has done nothing with a decade full of top 15 classes and top draft picks, while playing against a down ACC.

IMO Dabo has cost them more games than any one player who's been suspended. Just not a good x's and o's guy. JMO

Swinney is a heck of a recruiter. Tons of energy. Clemson is also an excellent school with a great, young coaching staff.

Agree with everything you said except the excellent school part. It's a solid school, but not excellent.

A decade full of top 15 classes ? WTF are you talking about ? He's been HC for three years.

He just led them to their best season in ages, and has most of that team coming back. He amped up their recruiting considerably once he arrived, and last year was the first chance for those kids to really get involved (Boyd, Watkins, Steward, Antony, etc).

He may not be Nick Saban, but he's got one of the best young OC's in the business and just brought in a strong DC in Brent Venables. He's putting the right pieces around him.

Once he arrived? Hes been the assistant head coach at Clemson since 2003.

Oh, my apologies. I obviously didn't mean since he took over the HC job.

    Thanks.

    someone got paid

He didnt go with the 2 for 1 attempt with the teammates thing. He went 3 for 1. I believe the 2nd kid from Grayson just committed recently. And this was looking like a strong possiblity since.. SEC schools wont quit, so Dabo still has to battle I would guess, only part way to signing day.

  • Coordinators are always the most important piece of the puzzle.

And I do like both of his coordinators. However I don't like Dabo as a coach. He is a tremendous recruiter but Clenson is one of the most underachieving programs in the nation. They pump out NFL talent like nobody's business, and have consistently finished middle of the pack in the ACC.

If Dabo can keep bringing in the talent and surrounds himself with strong coordinators, he'll do quite well for himself. Clemson has a ceiling, but he can take them very far with that recipe.

After all, that is Meyer's and Mile's recipe, and to a lesser extent was Carroll's.

    No disagreement here.

As long as Dabo recognizes his place in the recipe, as a recruiter and not as much of a coach, then they should do just fine.

I always felt bad for Venables, because Stoops never trusted him the way he trusted his brother, and would influence the defense more than was probably fair to Venables. Hopefully he does well in Clemson, they certainly have the talent to be successful.

  • RB Ryan Green committed to Florida State.

Also, although there is a thread dedicated to this, OL Derwin Gray to Maryland.

Both of these players had Penn State offers.

  • On the whole "Clemson is shady" thing -

During Sammy Watkins' recruitment, there was a lot of feeling among Michigan fans and insiders that he was strongly leaning towards Michigan. He has family in the area, visited multiple times and loved it, and he and RichRod were building an amazing bond. The Clemson commitment (like Nkemdiche) caught people by surprise. Now, there were the natural questions of how something like that happens, but this one was strange - it wasn't just the fans spouting off with the questions.

Some VERY prominent insiders (we're talking guys who write for recruiting sites, some of the biggest names in the business) were convinced something very shady had gone down. These guys had been on the phone with Watkins for weeks, and most were pretty convinced he was going to Michigan. Practically overnight it all changed, and it wasn't just a visit gone very well. The pictures that have emerged since then of Watkins and his brand new $50K car have just fueled the speculation.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the NCAA actually did something? I mean, why can't they ask Watkins to provide proof how he got that new vehicle?

I don't believe so. Gray visited us, but based off of his comments, it didn't sound like we were recruiting him very hard.

And from what Cory and Sean have said, it seems like if some OT's like Zeff or Davenport don't impress at camps then the staff will just stay with two OL this year.

Pulling in both Gray and Ngakoue in less than 24 hours is quit haul for UMD.
