Screw it, I'll chime in since I watched the game and live in Columbus. Miller is still having issues seeing the field from the pocket (thank god, otherwise he would be scary). Dunn might get some PT, but the running backs are still rather average for OSU (though Hall didn't play and Meyer is on the record as really liking him). They're not sure what they have at WR yet and Meyer has expressed some concern about the position. Shazier has put on weight and will likely be one heck of a linebacker this year.

They didn't have the quarterbacks run so they didn't show too much, but it certainly looks like he's going to run the same kind of offense that he ran at Florida. If Miller ever figures out how to read a defense or even see the field better then it could get very interesting in terms of trying to stop them. But there are rumors about Miller's...... aptitude, which has some people concerned that he may never figure it out. It's not like he can't throw the ball (like Pryor), he just doesn't know how to produce from the pocket.

  • The little bit that I saw I agree w/ what you said. I think OSU is atleast 2-3 years away from seriously contending b/c of the radical shift in style of offense. With all the hype surrounding Meyer not sure if the Ohio faithful will give him that much time to get them back to the top or if once he starts feeling the pressure he decides it's not worth it and moves on. I think Ohio fans will be much less patient with Meyer than PSU fans will be w/ BOB and I think that will serve BOB well in the future. You really have to give a coach 4-5 years to implement his system and get the recruits he needs.

No OSU WR caught more than 14 passes last season, so yeah WR is prob. a concern to go with Braxton's throwing.

Braxton was pretty efficient wasnt he? 24 for 31 for 258 yards and 1 int. It is a spring game, so those numbers dont really matter to much, but I think Meyer will try to put him in a position where he does not have throw many difficult passes. I think he will still struggle throwing this season, but his feet are what are a little scary. I hope Miller continues putting up Bolden like numbers for the rest of his collegiate career.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Yeah. I think miller won't figure out his reads until maybe his senior season but man he is shifty. I didnt think that the I line looked particularly good. Though from a spring game it is hard to judge anyone. The option plays and little flipped passes are something new to see from the buckeyes. I think miller gets hurt though from sending me running all around the linebackers of the big ten. I only watched about a quarter and a half but I think we end with a better record and beat them at home. Hell try beat wisc on two passes and one on a 60 yard lucky heave

  • I think BOB could have a better first year than Meyer. Does that mean that OSU won't be successful under Meyer? Of course not.

They will probably have success under Meyer and I feel we will have success under BOB.

They definitely kept it simple for Miller, lots of rollouts/sprint outs, lots of short stuff to the outside. He throws better on the run and Meyer knows it, so I expect to see Miller running all over creation this fall. And Miller is certainly dangerous as a runner. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Again, if it ever clicks for him...., let's hope it doesn't happen. The kid has a ton of natural talent.

Disagree. They lost to Michigan last year largely because he couldn't hit a WIDE OPEN Devier Posey running down the sideline with a minute and a half left. His accuracy is pretty terrible.

He looked awful again in the spring game. Not quite as bad as McOlden, but he did have a few Bolden-esque throws. He was putting the ball right in the chests of linebackers, but they dropped all but one. Their o-line is awful too. The defense does look very good. My thoughts were they looked identical to how they looked last year before the suspended players came back. It's unfortunate that we don't have a competent QB right now because we would beat them like a drum this year if we did. As it is, I think we're about as good as them. Slightly worse at QB, significantly better everywhere else on offense, probably a step behind them in the defensive front 7, significantly worse at DB.

I wasn't saying he was overly accurate, just meant that he has a normal throwing motion, throws a decent looking ball. He's reasonably accurate outside the pocket. In the pocket he just doesn't see the field well, and I think that contributes to his lack of accuracy at times.

  • I'll chime in as an tOSU fan. Miller was ok, not bad, not great. Whoever said he looked terrible.... i'm not sure what you watched. Of course the spring game has to be taken with a grain of salt. Meyer told the team they were going to throw about 80% of the plays so 1) the defense didn't have to respect the run and 2) things like play action and zone reads were not options. That said, the defense also played pretty standard sets. Not a lot of stunting or bltizing. They also called Miller down for a sack anytime a defensive player was near him and several times he likely would have escaped.

Now on to what I saw. They main thing that I wanted to look at was how Miller's mechanics looked compared to last year. His feet look better. He is doing a better job of getting set when moving. His motion looks better as well. No more wounded duck passes that we occasionally saw last year. He does still have some issues reading from the pocket and made about 3 really bad throws, but also made several really good throws that I didn't expect. He was pretty efficient overall but part of that was the contained game. Overall, he is definitely looking like he'll definitely be improved for next year, though still a true sophmore. He does remind me a bit, at this moment, of another buckeye QB who had the same issues. Troy Smith was a primarily a runner his sophomore and junior season, with his form and mechanics gradually getting better. And then it all clicked for him and he threw the ball all over the place as a senior. That's what i'm hoping for out of Brax.

Lastly, regarding some of the other positions, I would say I am very excited about our front seven. I think we could be very dangerous on defense, especially if we get better safety play this year. Our oline still looks suspect, which I expected. You couldn't tell much about the running backs simply because we ran the ball so few times, but Dunn looks like the most liable to break a huge play (Hall probably is, but didn't play). Dunn also caught the ball well out of the backfield which is a big plus in the system. I almost like him more than Hyde. And yes, our WRs are a question mark right now. But the one encouraging thing is that true freshman (early enrollee) Michael Thomas had 12 catches and looks poised to be a playmaker. We'll be OK at WR with a bevy a young guys getting action and we might get a breakout star from Thomas or Smith.

    *sorry for the long post

This is a PSU board. People are giving their opinions. We can't give our opinions on the way we think Miller looked in a Spring game on our board without an OSU fan coming over trying to say we are retarded with regards to our opinions? Very insecure bunch.

Listen, I think there is nothing more overrated than trying to judge anything from a Spring Game, especially when you are talking about programs with a new coaching staff. You don't see anything close to what you will see in the Fall and the studs in the game are usually some random guy that you will rarely hear from during the regular-season.

Spring Games are really pointless in the grand scheme of things. It's just a social event.
