  • So Phil Steele has Ohio University ranked #31 and PSU is not in his top 40.........i know its just one person's opinion but does Ohio return a very solid team? Thanks.

  • I think PSUfan42 may have some info on them. Anywho I believe they have not only a solid team back but good coaching and a solid overall program.

  • For them, yes.

    They should have won the MAC title last year, and are a strong contender to win it this year. They will give us a good fight, and it will be a good warm-up for O'Brien and co.

    Steele isn't a hack IMO. Far from it and has pretty good knowledge in terms of what is going on nationally. He isn't perfect, but I can't think of too many who are better than he is overall. Ohio will play PSU very closely and PSU will be on upset watch that weekend unless BOB and his staff really are that good that soon.

    I have tried to find a preview for them - like returning starters and how many on O and D they return. I think they will be a decent contest - but that being said.........no way we should lose to them.

    Do they run an option attack? I think we will have to establish the run game

    If we can't establish the run that game it will be a long season. I think BOB will pass to set up the run this year. Theoretically.

  • As long as we win the game, all will be well. Will Ohio give us a fight, most likely. That's OK though. It will be a good test for the staff and this team to start the 2012 season.

    Good example. I put '05 Cincy in there just before their rise. And USF not to long ago(I believe it was) as well

    With due respect, this years penn state team is not going to look anything like last years team. The line will be much improved at the very least. While I dont expect a blow out, penn state should win its opener comfortably imo.

  • Not too many prognosticators are high on PSU this year, myself on the other hand am pretty encouraged by our prospects for a good season. There are no sure losses on the schedule like Bama over the last two seasons. Our OOC schedule is fairly solid and I believe will prepare us well for the conference slate.

    IMO our game prep and in game coaching will be light years ahead of what we witnessed the last few seasons. We won't have the three headed monster(four if you count Red as translator) calling plays, burning timeouts, and collecting delay of game penalties. The key will be execution. If we can run the football, and Mcgloin can play w/in himself there is not a game on the schedule that is unwinnable.

  • I think the concern is that there will be a learning curve with the PSU team and it might take some time for the team to come together. PSU is not playing a a real cupcake in the first 4 games. Ohio, UVA, Navy and Temple are all decent football teams and will present PSU with challenges. Ohio is a good team. PSU should win, but it would not be shocking for PSU to lose that game.

  • Ohio returns 3 on offense and 8 on defense. Hopefully we can limit the scoring.

    In other news checkout UCF vs. Ohio State - They return 10 on defense and 7 on offense.

  • I always liked Phil Steele. I think he, like most others besides us, is waiting to see the product before rating us too highly. We have alot of uncertainty to the unbiased observer.

    No starting QB and none of the canidates exactly lit it up last year.
    New coach and a new system heavy on the offense. None of the current players are used to that type of offense. It's a mentally challanging system at that.
    BOB will basically be playing the year with Joe's players
    One returning starter on the offensive line.

    I don't think we can really expect to be ranked too high. WIth that being said, if we take care of business things will work out.
