You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

Yea, if you dont believe how crucial some of those BS penalties were like the one on Amos that lead to 7 pts, compared to our penalties then I dont know what to say.

It was blatantly clear PSU got screwed by officiating today (and we screwed ourselves too)..It didnt lose us the game, but you never know with momentum this game couldve been completely different. You guys got calls in the most crucial times and the calls were BS.

Before I start, I want to say we didnt lose strictly because of the refs, but I believe it was a HUGE factor in our loss as momentum is so important in football, especially big games that are close.

I called into the post game show with this (but got cut off and I was out of the radio area to listen to their thoughts on my theory):

    1. The Big Ten is terrible. They need a darling to keep some respectability (an undefeated OSU lead by Meyer) 2. The Big Ten has backed OSU numerous times....Couple of examples: Delaney allowing inelligible players to play in the Sugar Bowl (or whatever bowl it was a couple years ago), the officiating at the end of the Purdue game last week in the last drive in which they shouldve lost but got blatant bad calls go against Purdue 3. The Big Ten has never really backed PSU since we joined the Big Ten. Just look at the last year, or even the sanctions and not helping us out with that and actually going all in on it by allowing our players to transfer to Big Ten schools. The past year prob. just shunned us more from Delaney and the Big Ten

This is tin-foil hattish but even my dad brought it up to me, and he is not one to ever believe this kind of stuff or bias officiating, and said it should be looked into.

    Just my thoughts.

There's an old adage that seems worth mentioning: Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. biggrin

Seriously though....I couldn't help but laugh as I watched college football highlight show tonight as they highlighted Braxton Miller's "incredibleness" on one of his touchdown runs. It was a nice play but there clear as day in the middle of the screen is an OSU player nearly ripping Mauti's jersey right off his back. It was the definition of holding and the ref staring right at it just flat out ignored it. And yes, if Mauti wasn't held he was bringing Miller down.

Also, just pointing out those penalties does not tell the story...All you have to do is watch the game and you can see PSU was playing against 11+1(refs) tonight.

That exact same thing happened to us last week against Purdue, getting hosed on several horrific calls, one resulting in a safety and the other in a turnover and yet OSU came back and won. The refs were bad this game and got calls wrong on both sides, PSU got the worst of it but to come up with this whacked-out conspiracy theory just shows how out there PSU fans are.

As for holding, yes Miller's first TD should've been brought back for holding but like the announcers said there was a ton of holding on both sides that went uncalled all game.

    Yeah.
That pass interference against you guys with 3 minutes left really evened out that phantom defensive holding leading to an OSU touchdown.

He already said the refs aren't THE reason PSU lost today,
But even your own Chris Spielman and all other commentators were noting on how awful the calls against PSU were during the game.

  • Last week we got hosed by the refs against Purdue but overcame it and won. If you get screwed by the refs and can't win it's still your fault, at least the calls that went against you did not result in a turnover and a safety like ours did last week.

  • Not following the conspiracy theory. If you watched the whole game last week, OSU got hosed on several abysmal calls against Purdue in the first 3 qtrs. They were as good as dead in that game, including missing their best player, and managed to win anyways.

The common thread to their success is good coaching. OSU is not currently elite in talent (although IMO they will be soon), but they have an elite coach who has generated results better than their current talent level. Even with no phantom hold call on Bars, PI on the fake punt, or hold called on Mauti; I am still convinced that OSU would've won the game. Why? Because on every OTHER big play during the game, OSU won it either via talent or coaching. They would've found a way to beat us even if the calls had gone our way. It wasn't our night. We couldn't run the ball. We couldn't pick up their blitz. We couldn't stop them when they hurried up. We couldn't capitalize on opportunities in their end of the field. We couldn't convert big downs. We couldnt generate big plays. They were able to do ALL those things, and that's why they won. Conspiracy theories can be spun anytime, but common sense says a 2 time NC winner w more/better horses in his stable beat a lesser opponent coached by a guy w 5 career Ws. It's not that far fetched.

  • I watched the second half of the Purdue game and the only bad calls I saw were the obvious holding calls not called on osu OL. Purdue pissed down their leg and played not to lose. Maybe the bad calls came in the first half.
