Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

Phil not good with wind? Obviously you did not watch the AT&T Pro-AM at Pebble Beach this year. -17 under in windy conditions. I was there on Friday when it was windy and started raining mid day.

Yes you are, I certainly wasn't trying to take away from your prediction.

The AT&T always plays easier for the AT&T than it would normally though, doesn't it? I was under the impression it was at least a ten shot difference from early in the year to later in the year.

EDIT: Put a gun to my head and I'd say Kuchar, but that's because I'm biased.

Matt Kuchar won low amateur last time the US Open was at the Olympic Club (also won low amateur at the Masters that year). I'd enjoy seeing him win it this time.

I followed Kuchar at the US Open that year for his opening round. His dad was on his bag - just sort of getting in the way all the time.

I've been to many US Opens. Olympic '98 and Bethpage '02 are the hardest tracks I have ever seen. Olympic was probably the harder course by a little bit but the weather at Bethpage '02 was brutal. I'll be interested to see how this course has changed with the thinning out of the trees and the new greens.

  • This course is going to be brutal. Should be fun to watch.

  • Okay, I'm eating my words early. Phil is +4 through 12 early on. Bubba is struggling too, already +6. Tiger holding steady at even par. Jason Bohn got the early lead with -3.

Olympic Club living up to it's reputation. Only 11 players are under par so far out of 78 on the course. Could be a long day if that continues.

  • Na just doubled, he's back down to even.

    Andrew Dzurita

  • Of the 78 players on the course, 21 are at even par or better. The number will probably grow once the afternoon guys get started.

Holes 7 and 18 will most likely be birdie holes this week, along with 17 with a good second shot. Interesting the rest of the course is so hard and those are ridiculously short and easy(-ier) par 4s.

Anywho, excited to see what Kuch can do today.

Jmaus, if you're out there, our boy Colt Knost is at +4 thru 11 holes.

  • Tiger has been in a zone off the tee. Pretty solid overall round by him so far, one bird, one bogey.

    Andrew Dzurita

  • It is very damn cool that a kid I went to high school with is currently leading the US open!

Is there a live stream online somewhere?

usopen.com is following the Tiger group. I work in a TV studio so, you know, there's TVs at my disposal. This portion is also being shown on ESPN so maybe try their site if this link doesnt work.

That's pretty sick. Nothing seems to be phasing him right now.

    Andrew Dzurita

  • Tiger is playing that stinger again, his old go to shot. I love it.

When he first came on Tour, his stinger flew 240 and rolled out to 270 with a two iron. If he keeps that up, he'll be dangerous for sure.

  • Does anybody know what changes they made to the greens when they changed them?

More undulation? Less? What kind of grass is it?

    TIA.

  • They changed the grass on the greens, I legit can't remember the name of it though. Wikipedia says it is bent grass but they made mention to a grass change on the telecast.

    Andrew Dzurita

  • If anybody finds out, please post.

What a putt by Tigger, holy crap.

  • I will rarely say a pro golfer gets lucky but Tiger did just that. He was staring square at a 5 if he misses

Yeah he knew it too, he blew a big sigh of relief once it went in.

  • Tiger tied for 2nd at -2. Only 8 players shooting under par out of 78 on the course. Brutal! Another player who is up on the leader board early is KJ Choi at -1. He definitely may be someone to watch since he's a very consistent golfer when he's on.

Michael Thompson is at the top of the leader board at -3 with Tiger, Jason Bohn and David Toms nipping at his heals at -2.

I caddied in a group with KJ during a Pro-Am. Very, very nice guy.

Literally hit 14/14 fairways, and 18/18 greens. It was unbelievable, he's just a machine.

I like David Toms, don't know anything about Bohn, but its cool someone on the boards knows him.

@White_Out: Players get lucky all the time, its part of golf. Most players say to win a major championship you need to get lucky a time or two. Every little kick helps.

  • Funny story about Bohn. A few of us went to visit him at Alabama, and we went out partying. The next morning he was to be at a hole in one tournament...

Well he almost missed the tournament and we were all severely hung over and he dropped a ball and grabbed a 7 (I think) and one bounced it in for a million bucks.

Naturally the NCAA stepped in and made him choose, the million or his golf scholarship. He chose the million and started his quest. I think he still holds the Canadian Tour round record at 53, but not positive on that.
