Talk about a tough call. If it's me I'd probably go with Penn State but I'm crazier than most about Penn State. Not to mention I have no idea what it's like to have options like that.

If it's pay your way at PSU or free ride to IVY... I'm going Ivy 100% of the time. If I had to pay for both I'd pick PSU but it's hard to pass up a free Ivy league education and get to play football. I most definitely didn't have anywhere close to those options though. Pretty awesome we are trying to get walk on kids that have offers from Bucknell and Ivy schools though.

I would as well. The kid would be a stud in the Ivy League.

I definitely hope it's us, but it's hard to pass up an Ivy League scholarship for a walk-on opportunity. He's got decent size for a walk-on and would certainly help us out.

I agree, passing up on an Ivy scholarship seems silly to me. Not that an education from and playing football at PSU are a anything to sneeze at, but and Ivy degree sets you up for life in the business realm. I guess it depends on how important playing big-time football is to him.

Most would probably go IVY I bet. Personally, I believe the chance to play Penn State Football would be something I couldn't pass up. Some of my earliest memories are of Penn State Football. I wanted to play for the Lions since I was 4 or 5.

  • Chad Kulka LB transferred from a scholarship at Div II Slippery Rock. Hopes to make the Run On squad but has not been permitted to work out with team just yet. Not sure what it takes for them to let him in for the workouts but I know he transferred there to play. Still has 4 years left-he was a redshirt this past fall.

I would hope he had conversations with the staff before making the jump. There is quite a difference between D2 and D1.

I think grades are the issues with Quiller. Prep school may do him well. I saw him play against Delaware Valley. He was the best athlete on the field. He may be an even better basketball player though and maybe he goes that route.

Ive seen him play both. He is a much better football player than basketball player.
Im told grades are the thing keeping him from offers. But his future is football.
He would do well to go to a prep school to get things in line & keep 4 yrs eligibility.
He could go to Lackawanna Jr College (which send kids to D1 every year) which has a good football program & he would definately get offers if he can turn the grades around.

I'd probably take the free ride as well. Graduate debt free, or close to it, with a degree from one of the best universities in the world. Not to mention he'd be the BMOC and would likely get a ton of playing time.m

That being said, would be awesome to land this kid. Multiple all state selections with offers from other schools is about as good as it gets for walkons.

  • Wiltfong mentions Pancoast as a notable run-on for Penn State.

Penn State coach Bill O’Brien and the Nittany Lions are holding strong in the national Top25 recruiting rankings with a 17-player class led by five-star quarterback Christian Hackenberg and four-stars Adam Breneman, Tyler Ferguson, Andrew Nelson and Garrett Sickels. Although the Nittany Lions appear to be done recruiting scholarship guys in the class-of-2013, the “Run On” program has really caught momentum. To make up for lost scholarships due to NCAA sanctions, the Nittany Lions are building their roster with preferred walk-ons. They’ll take 15 to 20 run-ons in this class, combing the backwoods for prospects, and taking chances on others that may be considered an inch too short or a half step too slow. Penn State is giving overlooked prospects with high-growth potential an opportunity to fulfill their dream of playing major college football for a tradition-rich program inside a stadium that seats over 100,000 people for every home game. Many of these guys can play a number or positions. Three of the top “Run Ons” are Von Walker, Evan Galimberti and Tom Pancoast.
