Been trying to get in touch with him for a while now but have not had any luck. Have heard he's a walk-on candidate as a wideout but that's about it.

*And thanks for the updates guys keep em coming.

  • Anyone think guys like Karlon Quiller who visited, but doesn't have any offers would walk on? I know that some of them go Prep or Juco, but I was just wondering if anyone thought a kid like that would walk on? Any names that anyone knows of?

I think grades are the issues with Quiller. Prep school may do him well. I saw him play against Delaware Valley. He was the best athlete on the field. He may be an even better basketball player though and maybe he goes that route.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

  • So how many new preferred walk-ons can we take? I've seen the number 10 referenced a couple of times. It would be nice to get a couple of LBs.

Just an educated guess here. There were 31 seniors on senior day. If we figure 21 ships I would assume 10. That does not take into account those that left the team and how those numbers shake out. I would assume that they ships that left can be replaced with run-ons.

Based on articles I have read, if no Division I offers come, he will be a 'run-on' at Penn State.

  • IIRC, NCAA allows a D1 team to carry a roster of 105 (only 85 on scholarship) and I have not seen anything that restricts PSU from hitting 105. I don't know of any limits on "preferred" vs regular walk ons.

NCAA didn't restrict the overall roster of PSU, only the number of athletic scholarships it can give overall, and as initial encounters.
Therefore, the overall roster remains at 105... 105 (minus) scholarships = Run-ons.
Assuming we have the full 65 scholarships in 2014, the remaining 40 spots to get to 105 can be filled with run-ons.

Preferred walk-on basically means that the staff will guarantee them a spot on the team initially. So they are recruited in a way

Garrity Jr. has an interview with ESPN. It sounds good for us, but still waiting for things to develop at smaller schools.

Watch: Will Garrity follow father's footsteps? - PSU Nittany Lions Blog - ESPN

Josh Moyer talks with 2013 wideout Gregg Garrity (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) about his recruitment and whether he might follow in his father's foot

Wouldn't blame the kid one bit for going to Bucknell. Great school. But I do hope he ends up in blue and white.

  • Brandon Smith, Lewisburg, was selected to the 2012 Pennsylvania All State First Team Defense at linebacker for the third straight year along with Alex Anzalone (4 star - Notre Dame). Smith is an honor student who has been offered a preferred walk on (run on) spot by Bill O'Brien and Mac McWhorter. He is deciding between Penn State (his dream school) or accepting an IVY League scholarship.

Talk about a tough call. If it's me I'd probably go with Penn State but I'm crazier than most about Penn State. Not to mention I have no idea what it's like to have options like that.

I definitely hope it's us, but it's hard to pass up an Ivy League scholarship for a walk-on opportunity. He's got decent size for a walk-on and would certainly help us out.
