Got to watch Penn Stater Bobby Lea on NBC Sports at 6 am this morning as he competed in the individual pursuit event on Day Two of the Omnium competition (Omnium is the decathalon of cycling - competitors compete in six events over two days). After four events, Bobby is in 9th place - an improvement of two spots from where he ended yesterday. The next event in the competition is the 15km Scratch Race which will go off at noon. The 1km time trial is the last event and it starts at 1:15. Unfortunately, neither of those events are scheduled to be televised so you'll have to watch online if you want to catch him.

Disagree with almost everything in this post. The duration of the event is irrelevant. I'd argue a better comparison was if there was 100 m backwards dash, 200 m backwards dash, and a 4x100 medley. Saying he would "dominate" in the next two years is pure speculation. I would take Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses or (pending the outcome of this Olympics) May-Treanor/Walsh and the Russian wrestler that won three golds and a silver as more dominant in their sports And these are just the one's I can name off the top of my head.
Edit: AS dominant, not necessarily more dominant.

To me, Phelps is a mixture of Shaq and Russell. Bear with me here. He is Russell in the fact that he wins and has won more than anyone else in his sport, and it's not really close. But he's Shaq is everything else. When he wants to be, like Shaq in bball, he can be the most dominant force in swimming. The problem is, we're not sure he wants it. When I listen to him and his action, etc. I don't get the feeling that he wants to be the best he can be and dominate the way he could. He even said if himself, when he acts serious he isn't that great, but when he doesn't care and is just having fun he does well. He doesnt thirst fir perfect in his sport (i cant believe this is his last Olympics, you would have to kill me to keep me from competing if i could). Like Shaq, pure ability and talent made him the best. And that's what he is. The best, even if I feel he could have done a bit more.
