Official Olympics Thread

  • With the Olympics in full force now, I thought it would be cool to have a thread for people to post their thoughts, so here it is. Not sure if a mod wants to pin it or not.....

USA got off to a good start this morning with boxer Joseph Diaz winning the first boxing match of the Olympics, 19-9.

Jeez, we should have just sent our undefeated W Volleyball team en masse.

Is Anderson starting for the M Volleyball? For some reason, I thought I read he was one of the top players on the team.

  • Looking forward to watching swimming and womens soccer, especially Alex Morgan!

Opening ceremony was pretty weak IMO, seemed like they tried to capture everything British in a couple hours. Gotta say WTF with the whole social media house party and the queen/bond skits.

  • The Canadian Women's Soccer team is about to crush South Africa......up 3-0.....and.....

    the game just finished.

  • United States Men's Archery team just took out the World Record holding South Koreans. Will play for the gold medal later.

  • I must have missed it when it was announced, but I just learned that Cael isn't competing like he originally planned. I'm probably about 4 months late, but I'm still bummed. I would have loved to seen him toss around some Iranian.

O well. I'm excited for these olympics.

  • Some quick thoughts...

Opening ceremony was a snoozer, but still love the parade of athletes.

US women's basketball team looking terrible against Croatia (who barely qualified).

Phelps had a bad swim and admitted it. Lucky to move on.

Bummer for Phinney in the bike event, taking 4th. Was a fantastic event to watch, though.

  • Excellent archery match against Itly, who just snuck out a 10 for the gold. I'll acceppt a silver medal to start off the Olympics though. Lol

I can't believe he snuck that in the 10. About as close as possible. Italians were so close to completely falling apart and letting the Americans win.

I know. That 8 by Kaminski ended up being a killer. But hey, I'll take it. That was clutch by the Italian, can't hate that.

  • Women's soccer having a pretty mediocre peroformance after a good showing against France earlier in the week.

The girl we have in the 100m Fly set the OR in her prelim heat. Said she felt like it was a good warm-up...lol.

Nope. Did you hear the awful commentary "this is one of the only sports where you need your adrenaline rushing, but you also have to remain calm."? I was like, "You must not have played sports in your life because that's what you need to win in most (all?) of them."

And yeah, clutch shot, especially since he had the 8 on his previous shot to cut it to 1. Thought he'd be on edge, but he snuck it in. Wish it were a clean 10 instead of on the line though. Must have made it even more painful for the Americans.

I think I'm on tape delay in AZ.

Don't tell me who wins. Although I'm pretty sure who will.

I know I'm late on this, but team handball is te only Olympic sport in which the US does not have a team/individual participating.

  • Phelps ... two shitty swims. He looks either disinterested, out of shape for him, or thought he could do it with minimal effort. Glad Lochte won.

Opening ceremony was terrible. However, parade of nations flew.

My guess is out of shape. I can't blame him - his performance in china was so incredible. Where do you go after that?

My guess is he didn't prepare like he used to. Lot of Olympics left so we'll see...

He actually said he didn't coming in to the Olympics. I read an interview with him and he pretty much admitted he was burned out and hadn't trained as hard as before.
