according to OTL, its going to be brutal on JoePa and the way he handled player disipline, opening us up to the NCAA and getting hammered with violations.

player discipline has nothing to do with NCAA and getting hammered with violations ... do you really know what the NCAA is there for?

  • Freeh probe into Penn State in the Sandusky case will focus on more than Joe Paterno - Yahoo! Sports

From Yahoo! Sports: The investigation by the former FBI chief is wide-ranging and the report will assign blame to many, a source says.

  • At this point in time after everything that has gone on I only really care about possible NCAA sanctions at this point. If there is nothing in this report that justifies sanctions then I will be happy and could really careless about the report.

I don't think many people on either side do. Most people still think LOIC just means that something was out of control.

  • I for one will be very surprised if Paterno "protected" players. I always thought that he handled situations very fairly. Sure, he protected his players, but not from due process, he protected them from being scrutinized publicly for life mistakes. We have had our share of trouble; fist fights, weed, dui's....but outside of Chris Bell who was shown the door, in the broad spectrum of todays student athlete, these incidents have been "minor." If the report says otherwise then shame on me for trusting the icon, but i just don't anticipate that happening. Whether you like Joe or not, i can't think of a situation I thought was shady. I would be extremely surprised to see the report focus on the football coach who, by law, had no obligations beyond what he did back in 2001. Who was he protecting? A former employee? Because its also known that he and Jerry didnt have the greatest relationship in the world following his dismissal.

On a side note, I'm unbelievably surprised that the media hasn't looked into Tom Corbett. I'm dying for someone to dig into his closet. We are talking about the guy who pretty much drop the ball in 1998. The guy who was most tied to Ray Gricar. The guy who had well known political issues with Spandex. The guy who sat on the BOT and was all of a sudden public speaker #1 when shit hit the fan back in Nov. I think his closet is full of interesting storylines. Maybe it hurts PSU, but this guy is sleazy.

Something else I expect to be there: Joe played Anwar Phillips in a Bowl Game while he was suspended from for an alleged sexual assault. He was cleared of all wrong doing, but IMO Joe was dead wrong to play him while suspended from School. That might even be an NCAA issue.

He was eligible to play by both Penn State and NCAA rules. You (and the Freeh report) might say that Joe was going against the spirit of the rules by playing him but there's no NCAA issues here.

  • anyone read the Spanier article on ESPN frontpage (yes, i still read espn). Very interesting, even more confusion for me, especially his actions. Now I think there is something really missing from this whole thing.

I commented on it in the blowhards thread. You'd think he'd know what was in his own emails. So I doubt he'd take this stance if he thought anything obviously disproving his statement was about to be released.

  • Spanier at this point has lawyered up and at this point may have to say those emails were fabricated if he can't recover them via court.....that article/statement is that weasel covering his ass under that above scenario

That seems unlikely IMHO. I'd guess they didn't mention specifics in their emails allowing him to claim ignorance. Sounds more believable to me anyway. But hey, it worked for OJ!

  • I thought Spanier was not interviewed by the Freeh Group, but an article from today in StateCollege.com by Musselman indicates Spanier met with the Freeh group in Philadelphia within the last weeks.

I believe ESPN ran a pretty in depth article surrounding Corbett. I'll bet you can find it if you google search Corbett, ESPN, and PSU.

I don't buy that for a second. Player discipline is a bit outside of the scope of child molestation being overlooked by all parties involved. If the school tries to present Joe's discipline methods of his football players as the reason grown men didn't call the cops...well they have even bigger idiots running the show now. Scary to say that, but blaming the coach for not executing football players on the spot for fights or drinking has nothing at all to do with this case. I really hope they don't try to go that route and I doubt the NCAA will blink at Joe suspending Connor for a few games for prank calls. Good grief a few here just love playing the drama card.

I agree! Plus we lost 3 players due to that apartment fight. One went to Hampton and the other to Baylor. The third player I do not remember where he landed, but he was off the team. I we were cutting corners S. Green would not have missed most of his senior year due to being in Joe's Doghouse.

  • The sad part of all of this is that the public's only interest in this report is to see if there is enough evidence to punish the young men who wear Blue and white!no It is very sad because not one student or student athlete had nothing to do with any of this mess. People will say well they did it to USC and OSU, but those schools were busted for cheating not because of admin errors.

Or perhaps what all 3 said all along. MM's current story doesn't match what it was in 2001.

Wasn't it reported that Joe basically told the current team the same thing regarding MM's version in the grand jury presentment?
