  • Now that the release date has been announced, I'm going to re-title this thread to the Official Freeh Report thread. Let's do our best to keep everything in one place.

  • Makes me sick to my stomach, but it must be done. Continue to take our beats, another step closer to learning from the mistakes, another chance to take a step towards healing, hopefully another step towards closure for the victims and their families.

  • Here we go. Like ripping off a bandaid.

  • according to OTL, its going to be brutal on JoePa and the way he handled player disipline, opening us up to the NCAA and getting hammered with violations.

    Spulv400

  • Hopefully this will be one of the last major events we have to endure. We made it through the original break of the story last year (probably the worst) and the Sandusky trial. We just have to get through this report and to a lesser extent the Curley/Schwartz trials after which I think we will finally be able to move on....especially with football season starting. Each one of these events is like ripping off a scab.

    rummel49

  • Not going to be fun, but necessary.

Something tdiddy said in another thread interested me. I think the timing of this is actually decent. It will have a couple weeks to fester, but then the Olympics start. After that, the football season is upon us. Any potential uproar shouldn't last too long and hopefully we can return to normalcy relatively quickly.

I don't buy that for a second. Player discipline is a bit outside of the scope of child molestation being overlooked by all parties involved. If the school tries to present Joe's discipline methods of his football players as the reason grown men didn't call the cops...well they have even bigger idiots running the show now. Scary to say that, but blaming the coach for not executing football players on the spot for fights or drinking has nothing at all to do with this case. I really hope they don't try to go that route and I doubt the NCAA will blink at Joe suspending Connor for a few games for prank calls. Good grief a few here just love playing the drama card.

If it's stuff about Tripponey, wasn't that already reported on back in 2007? And didn't the NCAA already look into that?

  • Good, I can't wait to see it. Hopefully it is the most in-depth investigation that we could imagine. Leave no stone unturned. If it makes people look bad or incompetent, so be it.

I doubt they will have many specifics about the player discipline. Plus the language in student code of conduct was changed after 2007.

I've read we've heard the worst already, and that the email regarding Joe had been taken out of context.

Of course we've heard a lot of different things

Problem is that if there isn't a smoking gun, media will accuse us of manipulating the investigation. The BOT has put us in a lose-lose situation.

No. WSJ reported about it in Nov. literally nothing new has been discovered, except the emails. Which may or may not have been out of context.

  • The media will try to have a field day with this. It will be spun in any direction they desire as long as it helps them get ratings...Just like the leaks. It will be a long couple weeks.

Oh ok, I think 2007 was the brawl.

i agree with you if the report tries to tie player discipline to the sandusky situation, but we could still get ncaa sanctions for violations separate from what went on with sandusky. i don't think it will matter though if the report clearly separates the two issues, the media and public will try to make the tie anyway and chastise joe even more.. most people already have decided joe is a monster and nothing is going to change their minds of that..

I really don't care what the media thinks. I have no reason to believe that Freeh didn't do a thorough investigation. Yes, we works for the BOT, but his company's reputation would be at stake if he did not look into everything, or worse, omit important information. He had a whole team working around the clock for half a year on this thing. No other agency will be able to put in the time and manpower that his company was able to deploy.

Bottom line is MM could have called the cops. He didn't. His Dad could have, he didn't. Dr. D could have suggested it, he didn't. Joe could have, he didn't. Curley could have, he didn't. Schultz could have easily, he didn't. Spanier could have, he didn't. When the other 3 go to trial, the judge isn't going to let them play the we were afraid of the football coach as a defense. I doubt they attempt to play that card themsleves as a defense. In terms of the NCAA, the player discipline thing is wide open in terms of discussion. Did Joe in fact discipline his players...hell yes. Unless they show a mass coverup where Joe didn't discipline his players, they don't have much. They basically have an administrator upset she couldn't pull the trigger on his players. Boohoo for Dr. T as she wouldn't be overriding JT at OSU, UM at OSU, Saban at Bama....etc. That is the reality of big time coaches and big time programs. If the NCAA wants to open that door, they better go all in.

It was. Triponey got different players into different meetings and tried to coerce them into ratting each other out. Joe told the players he'd kick them off the team if they cooperated with her. Mind you, there was a full blown legal investigation going on at the same time. Joe's basic argument was that PSU's student affairs shouldn't have any jurisdiction over things that happened off campus - rather let the police handle it, and then PSU's discipline comes after that, If neccesary.

Where I disagree with Joe was his contention that he should be responsible for that. But itd be incredibly difficult to pin this to NCAA rule breaking.

  • Something else I expect to be there: Joe played Anwar Phillips in a Bowl Game while he was suspended from for an alleged sexual assault. He was cleared of all wrong doing, but IMO Joe was dead wrong to play him while suspended from School. That might even be an NCAA issue.
