I just think a kid on the verge of committing would come to bw instead of a useless 7 on 7. OSU got AA for their spring game and they think it's a done deal after Saturday

He isnt on the verge of committing. He said late May to early June. He's doing his due dilligence, Jesus you two.

Just frustrated as I wanted him to commit this weekend and keep the momentum going

Don't worry I guarantee someone will commit to penn state this weekendto keep the momentum going. That trend if one per weekend has been going in for almost two months now without fail. Isaiah Washington saved the football pattern though by committing for a different sport in week obviously.

I don't care what recruits say mtayl many have said that they "aren't close" and then commit the very next second. I'm not freaking out, its just a little strange to me that a 7 on 7 is more important than bw here, that's all. No biggie. And this is the twitter thread. Last post from me on the subject

It's because a visit is not set in stone, and he already committed to playing in the 7v7 (just forgot about it). Not a big deal.

Isn't a 7 on 7 team like an AAU basketball team? Do you advocate blowing off commitments?

Its a way to gain exposure like a camp. AAU basketball is a way to get better. An actual BB game... If he misses one day of 7 on 7 football (I guess that you could make the argument that he will get better from playing 7 on 7), I think he will be fine. Seriously fine... It's not like leaving your team in the playoffs or something. It's a 7 on 7 weekend... Im sure he can miss one...

Edit: Not getting sucked back into this pointless convo... 7 on 7's are a new phenomenon and some don't even participate. I think he can miss one day. But, again, last post on this. I am stepping away from my computer because I dont wanna do this and I want this thread to get back to twitter posts.

I'm sure he can miss the Spring Game and be fine too. Not like he will be going to any other game. He's going to go play (almost) football.

  • These 7 on 7 teams are they just of their particular high school getting ready for the upcoming season or is it an all star team full of D1 recruits showcasing? If its just his high school which wouldn't be filled with D1 recruits it would make more sense for him to honor that but if its a showcase deal you'd think other recruits might skip to check out schools after them as they're not local teammates and it would happen more times than not.

Could be either. But I am guessing at this time of the year it is a showcase team. Our team 7 on 7s used to be all Summer.

  • Some people need to relax. These kids can do whatever they want to. He has been up there twice and if he wants to play with his 7v7 team, it's his decision. Who cares if a dramatic over the top fan doesn't like it...tough.

  • I mentioned it in the thread I just started about it but... Steve Wiltfong just tweeted that Rutgers has already offered a 2014 WR from Timber Creek HS (Webb's school). Would be nice to get a pipeline going into that school.

So theoretically, you can't talk to them but just can't flat out say, "come to [insert school]"?

Saying fans cannot talk to recruits is the ncaa overstepping their bounds..very absurd.

Its the right thing for them to do. No random joe should be communicating to these kids to attend any school.

I agree but in today's day and age, that's impossible to impose.

  • Whether it is impossible to impose such a rule or not, I think it should be in place. It just seems weird to me to have fans contacting these high school kids. I feel weird enough if I follow someone on twitter just to keep abreast of where they stand.

  • Regardless of whether its permissible by the NCAA...

    no

It doesn't matter. If the NCAA is looking into things and can't find the dirt that they wanted, they can always go back to this rule and impose sanctions. (Think PSU)

People... don't be stupid. Stop it.

It is incredibly creepy. Grown men talking to 17 year old kids like they are Gods... in some cases, begging them to come to their school... pathetic.
