Just wondering - who can we point to? I don't think PSU receiver have done well at all.

That said, it is a brand new staff with a WR coach who comes highly regarded. I think Foster would do very well to come here over both Pitt and Alabama for a few reasons: 1) he'll have a premier QB throwing him the ball, 2) he'll be working in a passing offense, and 3) Hixon has a great history of teaching WR's the fundamentals, especially running routes, which would appear to be Foster's main weak point.

It's nice to be able to point to certain positions and say "Look at all the success we have had at this position and that success translated into guys being able to follow their dream of playing professional football and having a decent career there," but it isn't the end all be all. We recruited (notice I will not discuss development) very well (based on rankings) with no track record at QB while Jay was heading up that position.

These kids fall in love with a school for a myriad of reasons, not always what we think they should look at. I think fans generalize too much (easy to do) when they look at why a kid did or didn't choose a particular school. Each kid is individually different as are their situation, surroundings, etc. The thing that has Bill O'Brien headed in the right direction is that he realizes that PSU has so much to offer and that with added advertisement/exposure... these kids can see the great situation that PSU is beyond just his formidable staff and and beautiful facilities. Hixon helps... but we haven't seen him do a ton of work on the recruiting trail so far.

A premier QB throwing him the ball? I like Alabama's QB situation a whole lot more than ours... We are essentially banking on one of our incoming QBs coming in and being ready to go. Remember Bolden and Jones were both highly ranked, nothing is a guarantee with Hackenberg although I really like his film.

That part was definitely the homerish argument, but I'm sticking by it. I like Bama's situation better than our...this year. I see ours getting better, and yes I'm saying Hackenberg is a premier QB. You can compare the ratings of Jones/Bolden to Hack, but I don't think they compare as QB's. Hack is so much more polished than either Jones or Bolden, both of whom were rated primarily on potential. JMO.

Is the rest of it untrue? Bama has solid QB's and that's it. They get guys like McElroy who are safe QB's and won't lose them games. That does not equal having a great QB throwing you the ball. The prime argument against Bama should be the type of offense they run. Foster would never be more than a Marquis Maze in that offense, IMO. A speedy deep threat who gets right around 600 yards per year. Not sure I've seen any WR's progress significantly at Bama.

  • I agree. Which is why I think because Foster is waiting to decide after the season the better our chances get because he gets a chance to see what we are going to put out on the field compared to others. A passing system + a weak depth chart at WR will be a very strong selling point.

I agree that even though Bobby Engram, Joe J, Bryant Johnson, etc., haven't/didn't have stellar careers in the NFL, they where able play for several years and that is coming out of a system that wasn't famous for their passing game. I agree with you 100% that the future passing game provides the possibility that PSU can/will be more enticing for the more elite receivers coming out of HS.

Maze's problem was that he could never stay healthy...he would of been a heck of a receiver had he been healthy his last 2 seasons.

Maybe he had nagging injuries, but cfbstats says he played in 13, 13, 14, and 13 games over four years.

I'm still wary - don't trust 11Warriors at all. That said...if he does go to OSU's spring game, it puts us a little behind I think, but it's not the end of the race. If we could get him on campus once more with his family...

Granted he is doing shrugs which are accentuating his upper body well in this pic, but he looks damn good for a DB! Fitzzzzy!

Hopefully if he does go, he will do so with an open mind. I'm sure Urban will put on a nice horse and pony show for recruits attending, and likely put on the full court press for him to commit.pukeface

I agree. I hope that's how it works out for us. I think this additional strength will help us vs. the big boys of the conference and will prevent us from being "pushed around" vs. them like what always seems to happen.

I caught flack before when I said Trent was a stand up, special kid.. Coming from his circumstances. But I love his character... He also helped raise his siblings... Good guy.
