  • Penn State message board fans are funny. This is a major screw up, but most are giving the staff a pass and saying its no big deal. If this kid was Jay's recruit and it happened, the lynch mob would be forming. I had my problems with Jay and the old staff with recruiting, but let's not minimize this gaffe either. It's not something that looks good in any way.

    Oh come on. Its probably funny/annoying to the kid but its not like he isn't going to pick a school because someone messed his name up.

    Actually, I'm in sales. I would love to hear how sending a letter to a prospective client using the wrong name to address them could be turned into a positive. Turned into nothing sure, but a positive?

    My point was mostly that I find it comical how most Penn State fans think nothing this staff does can be wrong. You can at least agree that it was a screwup, right?

    The kid is a stud. He is going to get calls from everyone, including all the big boys. His recruitment won't end anytime soon IMO. Bama is a very good program and the kid would be somewhat foolish not to take a look at it. He could be very well interested in Bama, or any other SEC school, or school down south. That said, how many kids from the State of PA has PSU lost to Bama, or LSU?

    This means nothing. He will take visits to other schools. No sense worrying about it.

    I agree, may not necessarily be a negative but I don't see it being a positive. I mean I get annoyed when people spell my name wrong let alone don't get my name right. Hopefully just a mix up that can be corrected and not an indication that the staff lacks attention to detail.

    Well then you must no have had a lot of sales expierance. I often taken negatives and overtime turn them into a running joke and a positive. I have sold hundreds of millions of dollars over the years and at the end of day anything can be positive or negative depending on how you react to it. I would address the issue and make them understand that from this point forward I would self adress every envelope because that is how much I want you. Then when I sent envelope I would capitalize every letter of his name every time. Bottom line you can turn it not a,positive.

    I fail to see your solution as a "positive", but rather minimizing damage. Agree to disagree. BTW your opening sentence is quite wrong, but I'll choose not to point out my sales record on a message board. I think we just view this circumstance quite differently and I'll leave it at that since we are getting way off the twitter purpose of this thread.

    Recruits from the same class are by far the best and most important recruiters for a class.

    Way more important he hits it off with guys like AB, Douglas, and Sickels than BOB.

    If he feels comfortable and close with the class, THEN Vandy's credentials will put him over the top.
